Calling @Vast Derp and anyone else with funny coloured hair. Myself I have a green streak roughly matching the one on my icon in black hair. It used to be pretty defined but now I have it blending into the black and must admit I like that much better. Colour is LaRiche Directions Alpine Green.

Got any favorite brand, colour, funny stories or How Tos? Give'em here!

I have thought about dying my hair some cool colour, or doing a streak of something, but I'm pretty sure I missed my window since I now do internships and it's against hospital dresscode :( Love all kinds of coloured hair though!

I wanted to dye my hair some cool color, but i'm kinda shy to ask for that. The closest I ever came to is my current hair color, which is... a light violet-red brown? i wanted it MORE VIOLET, but i'm super shy.
oh, and also that weird highlight where it's only in a quarter of the head in a really contrasting color, but i'm always thinking i'm either too old for that or that it's for people with more personality than I do.
ETA: link to a selfie with recently dyed hair, and also to a color like i wanted.

@Emma also wigs are great if you cant have funny colored/styled hair for work or even just if your hair refuses to cooperate on a given day.

I used to experiment around with purple and blue sections in my hair but now I have bright orange hair (henna dye so pretty natural too)

and I have wigs in.... white, red, blonde, grey, brown, pink, green and blue. and lavender :D
    i luv wigs :P

i once did this very dark pretty red that looked reddish brown unless it caught the light and the shiny part looked a much brighter red. it looked like red with brighter red highlights but as if it was a natural thing instead of dyed. i got lots of compliments on it. unfortunately my hair does notoriously bad with dyeing over and over, and it grows fast so the roots are very visible within about a week or so, so i never redyed it. too lazy to keep up with it.

my brother dyed his whole head bright blue in high school, but grew it back out to black for a job. which kinda sucked because it DID look pretty great on him imo.

my sister has pinkish reddish streaks in her mohawk and they look FABULOUS. i wish i could get a picture.

i also have a pretty funny dye story, i once tried to go blonde and what they don't tell you is that stuff doesn't work properly unless the base color of your hair is blonde. mine is ginger, or so i found out after washing out the product to find a shock of bright orange hair. i love orange but it... did not suit me. i had to go to a family gathering with no time to fix it.

I colour my white hairs blue and pink alternately, which I get away with at work despite being against the dress code because my hair is mainly black-brown. I'm using Schwartzkopt Live Color XXL Ultra Brights because they were cheap and I bought several boxes. I love having bleached slices but it takes forever to bleach up my hair (and now my hair's so short I'm not sure it's worth the hassle. I am lazy.)

I've done various blues, a red streak, and black before(my hair is very dark brown normally, but, noticably so, so the black did make a fair bit of difference). I've used Splat, Manic Panic, Loreal, and Ion, and I have to say they've all got their pros and cons, so long post time!

    Splat
Pros: cheap, bright colors, no mixing for the dye, covers well, super easy to apply, lasts a long time, and bleach is included in the color boxes! For the bleach only kit, it also includes conditioner and something specifically to help restore the oils and such to your hair that get stripped after bleaching
Cons: bleeds when wet for like the first month or more, you will ruin towels.
Splat is honestly my favorite over all, despite the color bleeding. In my experience it lasts the longest/fades the slowest, and it looks gorgeous and bright as heck. I've used the blue, black, and red before, and all of those have produced lovely results. It also smells really nice? Like a lot of dyes smell kind of gross, but this smells almost fruity in a nice way- definitely nice if you are sensitive to scents.

    Manic Panic
Pros: long lasting, good color, comes in a wide variety
Cons:small, harder to apply, sort of expensive, no bleach included(and I did not like their brand of bleach either). No gloves.
Lovely colors, but I am definitely more of a fan of color that you can apply with a bottle rather than needing a brush. Plus it can be almost twice as expensive as Splat. Also hard to find sometimes unless you're ordering online. This also doesn't smell bad, which pleases me. This is the only one listed that does not include gloves iirc. I can't remember if Ion does or not.

    Loreal
Pros: good color, fairly long lasting, more natural colors, comes with conditioner!
Cons:does not smell nice, mixing process is somewhat complicated. A little expensive
Used when I couldn't find Splat's black hair dye lol. Very nice, and there is a black with blue highlights, which was exactly what I was looking for. The conditioner that comes in the box is my favorite ever. It smells nice, and works really well, makes my hair very soft c:

    Ion
Pros: cheapest! Comes in many colors, no mixing(technically), you can choose to only use as much as you want
Cons: really needs to be mixed with water, very thick. Needs to be applied with a brush, and fades the fastest. Often uneven color, though it does look neat- just not great if you're going for totally solid one color.
Used this because they had the perfect shade of light blue, though it did turn out somewhat darker than expected. To be fair, my hair was not bleached quite as light as recommended. It does fade pretty fast though compared to the others, though you can reapply the same color right on top without re leaching to help brighten it back up. I am probably just bad at applying with a brush, but I got a very uneven color, and quite a bit of it stayed pretty blond. Looks neat, just not what I was going for.

I haven't had my natural color (medium-dark brown) since I was a few weeks shy of 13. I started out going black and red. I've since been black and blue, hot pink, purple, dark pink, light pink, dark blue, green, black, blonde, teal, dark red, and bright red. Right now it's hot pink with a purple streak.

Also, I swear by Punky Colour, myself.

Nice! And I don't think any of the places around here have Punky Color, or else I'd totally give it a try

I'm going to dye my hair...um, something, eventually. Probably a streak or several of purple or red. :3 Can't do it right now though, my primary summer job involves historical reenactment and unnatural hair colors are kind of a no-no for the 16th century, haha.

My hair isn't dyed right now but! I do dye it a lot. I have had my whole head be green! And another time it was blue. And at one point my hair was 70% red. Bright firetruck red.

I have also bleached my hair a few times! Thinking about doing it again tbh

henna. HENNA. henna dye is your friend. Especially if you have darker hair and thus just get this neat red undertone :D or indigo for black with blue undertones. Plants were known and used for dying purposes in the 16th century. (Though technically mostly fabrics and not so much hair BUT TECHNICALITIES)
other than that you could bleach gently with lemon juice since that is a technique known and used since the roman empire and the norse respectively on both ends of europe.

i want to dye my hair pink but i'm not quite sure how to do it. the last time it happened was an accident, i was going between copper-red and blonde and didn't do anything in between, so i was an anime for 24 hours until i could get back in with my stylist. i miss her. she's back in the home state and i've moved a timezone away by now.

i am also bad at dyeing my hair myself. but this. is a thing. that is going to happen. i love iliza shlesinger's pink streaks in her blonde hair, i think it's the perfect mix of soft and punk rock. and it's very subtle. (role model tbh.)

also, for completeness's sake: you gotta have blue hair.

I had pink-ish hair for a while in college. I didn't bleach first and the bright pink dye over my natural light brown hair came out to this lovely subtle magenta shade. I have to be a working professional now, so I think my pink hair days are behind me. Now I'm sad. I loved that color. I'll see if I can find any pictures.

Name a color and my hair has probably been some shade of it at one time or another. The most recent use of teal was with 'N Rage and that brand is wonderful. There is so much pigment in the dye and it lasts a really long time for a bright color. The only downside that I have found is that it isn't as widely available as Manic Panic and the smell can get a bit intense (like fake blueberries).

    Warning re: henna and indigo

If you dye your hair with proper real henna, it's said that chemical dyes won't take on that hair after the dying. So be careful! Also if there's any sort of black henna or something like that on offer, that is certainly not the real stuff and might even be a bit toxic. Henna only reds, it can't make your hair black.
It's also good for calming the scalp down a bit, I certainly experienced less oiliness/itchiness afterwards.

Currently I dye with whatever wine red/dark red I can find, because I mostly do it to dry the scalp out a bit. My hair is super strong so I haven't seen much hair damage yet. My base color is a really dark brown and I am too lazy to experiment/bleach, so random red it is. :P

yeah whoops I did forget about that. henna dyes for as long as the hair stays on pretty much so you might only refresh the dye for intensity sake or whatever. For the scalp calming I believe they do make conditioners on dye-stripped-henna basis. so like you get all the nice good stuff from henna minus the pigments.
the only genuine 'black' natural dye i know of is indigo and that makes your hair go pretty dark blue rather than black so.

My hair used to be a bright purple- almost blue in the right light. I went to Disneyland with it, and Cruella DeVille said "I absolutely love your hair, darling." I told her that it had previously been black and white, (black bangs, white rest of hair) and she gasped and said, "Whatever did you change it for?"
But yeah. I bonded with a villain over my hair.

(unfortunately being out in the sun all day for a week faded my hair to lavender, but.)
