Thanks to the brave souls of the Soup Expedition, I now feel much better about finally cutting loose from Tumblr. I'm gonna spend some time over the next week obliterating 90% of my archives and then moving the stuff that's worth keeping to WordPress. I might try Soup, but I'm thinking my head might be clearer without it. Less ultimately useless data flooding my brain.
Wordpress: "What is your blog about?" Me: "Shitposts and memes. No? Okay then... fandom..... nope. Okay then. FOLLOWING RANDOM PEOPLE BECAUSE I LIKE WHAT THEY REBLOG. WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN THAT'S NOT AN OPTION?!"
*looks at my tumblr* Is there anything WORTH saving here? ...okay, I guess I would like to save some photos and personal posts. :/ I think I might dive through my entire blog and just. Delete the things I don't want to save, then transfer the rest. I'll make a Wordpress, and probably a soup? Time to figure out new sites. I'll be using tumblr until it becomes unusable for me, though. I'm on mobile, no sound ads there so far.
Yeah, I want my personal posts. Turns out there are a lot more of them than I thought there were. Probably good info in there on my brain stuff and personal history.
Time to think of a name for my wordpress, since Shingleback is apparently not something you can register? *shrug*
Okay I'm clearly not understanding a fundamental feature of how people use Tumblr, even after 3 years. Like, to me, it's all "reblog reblog reblog reblog-tag comment reblog reblog Oh hey an original idea! ....0 notes, as expected. Anyway... reblog reblog comment-reblog..." I want to keep everything! And I want to keep all my original additions to posts (I'm very proud of that one final line in the meme mashup all star song for instance) And I want to keep all my personal posts, and I want to separate them. And I also like it when someone randomly reblogs a post that I reblogged a year ago. I don't wanna delete my Tumblr :(
is soup the kind of place where you can randomly post "my cat is so best" at 3am and a bunch of people will agree with you? because it's 3am and my cat is so best and WHO DO I TELL
Yeah, I've got no intention of deleting. Just trying out backup plans in case of Yahoo. The word press back up is crawling and I cry. 1700 out of 10000 so far....... Soup has a way of seeing what "everyone" posts, not sure how that page content is chosen, or if there's a way to search tags, or anything. :/
I'm palindromordnilap on soup.io. I think I already have a wordpress account, but I think I should probably make a new one.
@Lissa Lysik'an it's entirely possible I haven't turned on the option to be friends. I'll poke around and see if i can add you from my end.
I made a soup, it's Shingleback. There is nothing there, except a post saying that I took the name. I'm still waffling over what to call my Wordpress.
I'm not good at making new names for me so I always use either Lysikan, LissaLysikan, or Lissa_Lysikan. (The one with the space is because some bot grabbed my name and a few million others from various sites and auto-registered them on twitter. Twitter bans the name when they find it was bot generated rather than let you take it back.)
Aaaand now I can't get onto it .-. rude. eta: please imagine the 'I'M AT SOUP!!!' but it's me yelling 'I'M NOT AT SOUP!!!' and mashing the keyboard
I'm with you, Evilas. There's no way in hell I'm gonna delete my tumblr unless my life does a 180 and I join a commune out in the woods. I sort and categorize everything with tags, and without the tags, there's too much to be useful. How would I ever find anything? 90% of my blog is reblogs. Deleting tumblr and importing to a new platform is probably going to work better for people who make lots of original text posts.
does anyone have a suggestion for a backup tool that works with PCs? I was gonna give sitesucker a shot but it looks like it's mac only.
