@Hobo have you checked gamestop? Probably a dumb question, but they do carry used versions of darkness/time/sky, and that's where I got my copy of sky a couple weeks ago(my third copy- I lost the other two OTL). You can check online to see if your local one has any in stock before trekking all the way out there. Also mystery dungeon red is awesome and I totally recommend getting it if you can find a copy.

I sort of had, but I completely forgot you can check for their used games online. The store I checked most recently wasn't able to access their online DB for some reason, so yeah. So hoorah, there's a bunch of relatively local stores that have both sky and blue (can't get red since no gba, though I'm guessing they've just got different version exclusives so nbd?). I'm a little worried that I'm going to find the more forced-difficulty roguelike gameplay of blue/red frustrating after having played time, but I hope it isn't too hardcore. The hunger mechanics seem much less forgiving in blue, but that might just be a misunderstanding on my part. Anyway, thanks for the advice!

And on the same topic, omg have you guys heard that a new PMD game is coming out? I had no idea and only discovered it after looking up blue/sky on EBs website, it's called Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon. I hope they're going to move away from the gameplay introduced in GTI, it felt a bit too simple for me (though I am hella biased and a fan of the gummi system). Also hope it's not a game like GTI where 95% of the story happens in the last 20% of the game after mostly filler. That was frustrating (the story was good, just rushed). What do you guys think of the starter list? I find it kinda disappointing since I am a big fan of non-starters (phanpy) as PCs, and pikachu and riolu are some of my least favourite pokemon... but eh. Still, it's a hell of a lot of options. Also pikachu is op.

Yeah, I'm really excited for the new one!

I didn't really like time because it had a lot less content than red and I felt shorted. : ( I mean it was fun, but there was so much less of it than I expected. I powered through it in a couple of days and then I was done. It's one of the only games I took back to a used game shop afterwards, because I was kind of mad at how short it was and I figured I'd never play it again, which in retrospect was a bad idea since I do want to play it again.

Oh no, red/blue are not difficult at all! And yeah it's just regional differences- you can look up codes to get the missing Pokemon even, if you want them on your team. Tbh the whole on the run thing doesn't actually mean a whole lot, since there are still places where you can access storage if need be, and side dungeons if you need to grind. If you want an easy play through I suggest a fire type+pikachu as your team. I think the hunger mechanics are the same or similar? But then I am always careful to keep at least two apples on hand at all times. Generally you can get through an average of 10 levels, maybe 15 before you need to eat. It's similar in darkness/sky unless you've got certain IQ skills that allow you to get through levels faster. However, poison is MUCH less forgiving in the old ones as it used to take 6 hp away each time instead of 2.

@BPD anon really? I felt like darkness/sky had more story, or at least more that wasn't 100 level crawls which I sort of hate honestly. Like yeah they aren't terrible, but by the end I am just so happy to be done. They're all pretty short though- I don't think it took me more than a week tops to beat the main game for either of them.

And ahhhhhhh omg I can't wait for the new one even if I haven't gotten around to getting GTI(not really sure if it's worth spending 30 bucks so I'm waiting for it to go down a little). Hm, I have mixed feelings on the starter list- yes lots of options, but I did love the non starter options in the past games. Looking at the List I think I'll be going for a team of Fennekin and Oshawott for my first play through :D

Poison takes 4 HP in red, not 6. I personally find it too easy to take apples from outside into dungeons unless there are no naturally spawning apples. As far as length, I seem to remember every bit of story in Time taking much less time than just through Rayquaza in Red. And there were a lot fewer post-main-story dungeons to explore. And I have never even gotten through a level 100 crawl aside from the one with mew, so I'm not talking about those. (In fact, to be shamefully honest, I've never completed the whole post-Rayquaza Gengar story :(. I always restart first.)

Ahhhh my bad- have been playing sky lately, not red. Still, it is a pretty big difference either way. I can't remember which dungeons have apples usually, so I figure it's better safe than sorry since I hate having to redo failed optional missions. I think they're about equal if going up to the main boss, but darkness/sky definitely has more accessible post storyline imo, even if the whole darkrai thing seems a little tacked on now that I've replayed it again(I thought it was really neat when I first played haha). Ugh dungeon crawls are the worst, but at least you don't have to actually do any of those for Gengar- there is one that's that long, but you only have to get to the 20th floor for the mission with medicham, which I'm sort of counting because she's part of the same team. You should definitely play through the Gengar bit sometime, it really is pretty good. Honestly I like the storyline in red and blue better than darkness/sky, but it really could have used more strongly led post game like darkness had, like the graduation and scizor and such. The legendary bird part was really good though, wish they'd kept something similar for darkness.

I got blue and sky after my therapist appointment today, aw yiss. I think I'm gunna take a stab at blue first since I've already played time, probably gunna go cubone + pikachu because cubone is cute. I was debating skitty + pikachu but I'm not sure I want my player character not able to hit ghosts outside of geo pebbles or whatever, that seems like a bad pick (though I do love skitty). Discharge + agility OP. Though... I actually have no idea here, does lightning rod in PMD negate your partner's electric attacks? I should hope not. Ugh. Why is choosing pokemon so hard ;3; Meowth would be a nice option too?

@Alska If I were you, I'd probably wait for the price to drop tbh. Like, I genuinely like GTI, but it definitely feels disappointing when compared to time. Also they nerfed the OPness of agility, which was probably a good choice but makes me sad as someone who is only compelled to pick pikachu because of his op status lol.

hell yeah! And yeah, unfortunately lightning rod is a thing iirc :c but overheat is like the fire thunderbolt. also you're gonna want thunderbolt or overheat for ghosts, since it hits them even if they're on top of the wall. and cubone is adorable <3 never played as once though- I need to do that sometime. Meowth is probably similar to skitty, but that's not necessarily a bad thing I mean. You can still hit ghosts with your normal attack or with your moves, but normal attacks will be "hardly effective" or something like that, so they won't be much help.

Thanks for the advice! I kinda figured I was making the right choice, it never sounded stellar and I'd never heard much good about it. I'm so glad they nerfed agility though XD

Bonemerang OP. 2 pretty potent ranged attacks per shot.
(I played as a Cubone in Blue and murderificated pretty much everything non-flying with it)

liminal I'm gonna make it through this year if it kills me

Tiny me started playing with pokemon blue back in ye olden days of 1999, but oddly enough I think pokemon X is my favorite pokemon game so far (at least with the main series. I also love the mystery dungeon games) I remember when pokemon crystal came out and you could play as a girl and I was a super excited because up until then I just pretended that girls were not allowed to become official pokemon trainers and my trainer was like mulan. I remember a distinct time in my life where there were basically no video games where you could play as a girl so it makes me sad when people say that girls didn't play video games until recently, or that girl options in video games aren't a big deal.

I think pokemon X is my favorite game because it is literally everything tiny me ever wanted in a pokemon game. I can play as a girl and customize her (though I am a little sad there is little gender neutral clothing) I can have a cute little fox starter, I can pet and play games with my pokemon and feed them treats. Yeah the story is like a really cheesy episode of the pokemon anime but I find that endearing instead of grating. I am irrationally upset that you can't customize your trainer in ORAS and that they've mentioned that it won't be available in future gen games because "fashion" is apparently a kalos-only thing. But c'mon nintendo, at least let us customize skin, hair, and eye color. If the games after XY and ORAS take out pokemon amie I think I'm done with the main series.

EDIT: I CHECKED SEREBII AND THERE IS A 3D MYSTERY DUNGEON GAME COMING OUT? AAAAAAAH.

X was really great, I loved it, but I have to say my fave main series game has got to be fourth gen(specifically Pearl <3) Mostly because it was my first ever Pokemon game that was all mine(I'd borrowed fire red and emerald from friends before, but that's so not the same) and because I had gone into it completely and utterly unspoiled. It was amazing, and my friend and I went through every little thing we possibly could, getting excited over every new discovery. I don't think it'd even be possible to stay completely unspoilered for any game now unfortunately, but I wish it was.

Man I need a ds. I need one so bad because recently I have been having some serious Pokemon Ranger cravings.

Prolly gonna buy a 2ds since from what I've heard, there's no difference in gameplay, only price.

@BPD anon which ranger game is your fave if you've played all of them? Mine is probably the second one, since the first one has a mission that makes me rage quit, and the third was too easy imo.

    Is it the mission with:

Steelix? Because I could never beat that mission. I barely managed the legendaries and the Steelix mission was literally so I rage quit, deleted my save file, never touched the game again. I think that's the only game I've ever played period where I rage quit like that.

    ARE YOU KIDDING

    YES
    YES

    gimme your 3ds
Man I like them all! I could capture Pokemon by drawing circles around them forever and I only wish they had as much playtime as the main series games. Or maybe they do and I just beat the Ranger games faster because I like them more? I'm pretty sure I played all three, but I only have the first one with me because DS cartridges are east to lose : (.

@liminal YES. even now I can't do that mission- my friend was the only one I knew who could do it, and she doesn't live nearby anymore so she can't help me with it T_T

Saaaaame it is the best capture method ever. I think the second one at least has close to the same amount of total storyline as an average main game, but I'm not sure. They probably all come fairly close depending on the main game you're comparing them to, but yeah I totally just whipped through them except for the first because they were so much fun and I love the circle thing. Also I must have replayed all the extra post game missions like 10 times each haha. I still have Guardian Signs that I know of- dunno where the other two went vnv

You guys really make me want to give the ranger series a 2nd chance even though I quit the first ranger game forever.

    Do it! The second and third ones are much easier- never rage quit them except a single time because I hadn't saved in over two hours and fucked up ;u;
