evilas Sure, I'll put a custom title here

But he's like, a tiny bit less of a jerk. He improves a tiny bit. And his relationship with Sadie improves a bit.
I hope he can become a good person. Eventually.

I JUST HAVE A LOT OF LARS FEELS OKAY? He's uncomfortable with his life, and it doesn't matter why but it's important to try to improve it. Sadie can give him someone to be genuine to.

I really really really love the cadence of It's Over, Isn't It?

Especially the main verse, the one that goes "War and glory, reinvention"

It's just so pleasing to my head holes

Also I've been seeing stills from Alone at Sea floating around - was there a leak? Or is it a preview I missed?

It's very Utena-ish of him, yeah.
I wonder if we're gonna get another steven crisis episode along the lines of Full Disclosure or (parts of) Message Received about it.

The tappy rhythm game is fun but I'll be honest I spent almost ten minutes watching ads for money before even starting the game section. Because dollmaker.

I actually... feel really bad for Lars.

He clearly has emotional issues/issues with anxiety. He's doing badly in school. He's treating the people he cares about like garbage. It's also apparently unusual for his parents to see him in the morning and he blows up at them. All of this is a massive red flag to get him a therapist already. His parents are nice, but I don't think they really know what to do with their troubled son. They gently try to poke him in the right direction by appeasing him but also want him to put in more effort? and also apparently have their expectations of him set so low that they were preparing themselves for the day he became a criminal. How much do they even know is going on with him vs just thinking that he is being lazy/a bad person?

I just get flashbacks to my asshole brother who also failed out of school and everyone told him he was just being lazy. and he really had no interest in school and never did any work but you know he also has problems that go undiagnosed and untreated. and yes he did treat me badly (like how Sadie deserves so much better than Lars) but that doesn't mean he didn't have his own stuff going on.

and also it feels like his name issue is more than just "embarrassed because he has a girly name". The whole conversation:

"It's good to see you this morning Laramie"
    "Who's Laramie?"
(sudden panicked expression) "I mean Lars!"

Intentionally or not, I think really ...reads a lot like they are trying to imply the whole "Lars is trans" headcanon? (that, combined with Steven saying he was going to respect his body and his privacy, and his reaction to hearing Steven say that he spent the day in his body was to look down and start shrieking, and in horror club implying that he lashes out at people because like the gem monster he feels "hurt and trapped for so long" and with the gem it was specifically feeling hurt and trapped because of it's "body")

and if that's the case, the guy just got dead named by his dad in front of a bunch of people for "making a scene"

at first I didn't, because people were saying that back on Island Adventure because of his body shape and I know cis men who are lanky like that. Then, people said that during Horror Club because he's taller than Ronaldo (girls grow faster than boys) and has longer hair, when again, I knew cis boys that looked and sounded like him growing up and for all we know Ronaldo could have been a short kid who got hit with massive growth spurts during puberty.

but after the name thing this episode + comparing him to the gem monster in horror club that lashed out because it felt hurt and trapped in it's "body"

    I... yeah.
    I'm convinced.

i went with the earlier logic because why not, but now the head canon is solidified

fake edit: earlier logic being the gem monster in horror club. that was the only argument i came across and i went yes okay and agreed

Oh my god I already loved Lars a lot for being an awkward asshole, but now I love him even more. And the Lars is trans headcanon even more. I like him because he's an awkward asshole who clearly has issues. And he just can't fucking fix them well enough because he's too much of an asshole. So no one wants to give him the time of day because he's a prick. So he's just so vulnerable to falling down into an endless cycle of pain.

At least he has Sadie and Steven around. And at least he's capable of realizing when he fucks up with Sadie and does at least try to fix things.

I just feel so bad for him. If Pearl gets chances then so does Lars.

i totally agree!!! i have a soft spot for "giant jerk is actually just vulnerable mush, has walls" so i'm probably biased. i totally understand people who can't stand a character like Lars but i also think that's what's so great about steven universe, that everyone is so real you can react to them that way. also poor kid- steven was better at being lars than him. that's gotta sting.

and i supported trans lars just because "hey why not that's interesting" but i support it even more now w/ that evidence, and i've see that sort of posturing i have to Be Tough and Not Have Feelings Because Guys Don't Have Feelings in other people who later came out w/ the genders. basically yes good A+ headcanon. (how fuckin cute is it that his mom bought him heart-shaped plugs btw)

also as someone who super struggles with secondhand embarrassment & bodyswap plotlines, this one was surprisingly watchable? definitely not as cringey as it could've been, for me at least. i think it's because of how the people of beach city are written, everyone is pretty cool and accepting of differences & strangeness. so no one really cared that lars was acting a little different today. the teenagers are just rollin' with it.

also this is a meta thing but lars' voice actor did a really good job of speaking w/ steven's cadence and mannerisms during the bodyswap portion, steven!lars just sounds different than real!lars, i love shit like that

also sadie being able to kick the door down better than steven!lars ahhh i love her so much

    also also "buck is pleased."

edit: i'm rewatching the episodes on itunes now and i personally thought drop beat dad was waaaaaay worse in the second-hand embarrassment department. hmm.

We've seen him shirtless, guys. More than once.

There is no evidence that he's ever had tits--no signs of top surgery or of there still being tits.

Sorry, I just don't get how the headcanon could actually fucking work with what we have explicitly seen in canon.

I can wave it off personally with the art style being too stylized to show surgical scars.

I'm a fan of the headcanon, personally, but I doubt it's gonna be canon.

I just don't get why people would insist there's "so much canon evidence" for something that's pretty much easily disproven by canon itself.

It just...bothers me on some dumb but intense level that people are insisting it's probable in any way.
