I HAD NO IDEA WHERE TO POST THIS OTHERWISE, SO. Nate just made his first dorodango and it's really neat!!


IT'S JUST DIRT. There's nothing else in it but dirt. All the shine is natural buffing, it's rad :D

what does it feel like? i want to touch it. how do you make one?

 

It feels really different at all the stages! He's buffed it more and is working on making another one, they're finnicky..

But when it's in early stages, it actually feels really velvety. When it's like this, it's.. hm. It was slick feeling, like a table with polish applied to it, but there were small scratch-like divots in it here and there from the texture. It felt like a rubber ball almost? I didn't squeeze it bc I'm p sure if you're really rough with them they fall apart and since it's his first I didn't wanna be the one to snap it.. xD; It was cool to the touch, and sadly smelled a little like socks bc the dork was buffing with an old cloth and his hands were sweating now and then from the 20-30 minute blasts of activity he had to put into it. But it was.. idk. Polishy and rubbery and very solid, very dense. I keep wanting to touch it and roll it around in my hands because the sensation is very different from things I've held in the past. :o

There are tutorials online, but it's a lot of trial and error with those all as guidance. You just need dirt that you finely sift that isn't too moist, dusty dirt, water, patience, a plastic bag and a cloth. Once you get the feel of it apparently it's really relaxing and repetitive to do.

eta: It no longer smells like socks, and is actually HARD AS A FUCKING ROCK, SQUEEZING DOES NOT HARM A FULLY FORMED ONE APPARENTLY.

So I have ads blocked on DeviantArt. But there is a problem I've not been able to get past: even when I block element, it keeps a layer of invisible space over my followed artists groups of work. and sometimes over the buttons that allow me to say "yes i saw this, I want to delete it from my list now so it's clear and ready for later". I've added anything I can find, and yet.. 8I

Anyone know what I can block to get rid of the big fat blank spot so I can use my X buttons instead of dropdown menus clanking along and risking unfollowing someone?

 

part of me is irrationally irritated that that's the wrong album cover for that reference :P

 

I just think Salt and Sanctuary is the best title ever for a game. I have no interest in playing it because I'm ambivalent on Metroidvanias and Hit Gud stuff, but wow that name. Can we get a tabletop game with that name too? I'm thinking a low magic, desperate, late dark agesish tragedy, like Dragon Age meets Grey Ranks.

The problem with making characters for a new edition of D&D is checking out the current skill lists and the changed rules and deciding between them.

Do I wanna make a disney princess who uses little birds to send messages? Do I want to go with spells that emphasize the "no don't hurt the mage" by blasting enemies away? Do I wanna be the substitute healer and use two of eight known spells for healing....?
