Holy shit classpecting Utena is surprisingly hard. I have a nagging urge to make Utena a Bard except Saionji is obviously a Bard, and I can't decide whether Nanami should be a Maid or a Witch and Rage or Light. Or maybe a Page. And I kinda wanna make Miki a Seer of Light and Kozue a Mage of Void but I dunno if that fits

It seems somewhat fitting for the Utena series that a prince is, fundamentally, a destroyer. Once long ago I found a LiveJournal comment explaining that the Shadow Play Girls are to Utena what SBaHJ is to Homestuck. Honest to God, that was what made me decide to watch Utena way back when.
Meanwhile, I think Anthy is in the role of the story a Muse - she passively inspires others and has massive power.
I am getting more and more attached to Bard Utena. Like, the story of a bard is that they have a huge personal crisis/loss of faith, afterwhich they destroy what they once held dear, right? That fits in pretty damn nicely with Utena

I went to an anime convention earlier this summer, and there were at least three prints for sale (from different artists) featuring the SU cast dressed as Utena characters. Connie was Utena, Steven was in Anthy's Rose Bride dress. I don't recall how Pearl, Amethyst, and Garnet were identified with Utena characters beyond "student council uniforms." Off the top of my head I'd probably map Pearl to Juri? Amethyst's trickier, though, since she has issues but they don't line up with any of the student council... and Garnet is just way too well-adjusted to be a duellist. =P
Given all the anime references in SU, it's quite popular for crossover art! Btw, I personally like Lapis Lazuli as Anthy.
