Yesss. I saw people whining about how "IT LOOKS SO FAKE" and I was a bit. No? It looks cartoony? Which is the point? You can't make Slimer look realistic, it just doesn't work like that.
Spoiler: Ghostbusters spoilers The laylines thing was cool. One of my favourite shots was when the paranormal energy was charged/activated or w/e and you saw the green lines slicing across the city towards the building. I think that sort of cartoon-spooky neon green glow is a very Ghostbusters thing, where it kinda treads the line between actual spooky aesthetic and cartoonishness. Also the bit at the start with the floor cracks in the haunted mansion.
"The effects look dumb and fake," said by dudes who forget that in some shots in the first movie Slimer was literally a spraypainted peanut on a string
Target had THE WHOLE SQUAD in action figure form last week. I could only fit one in my budget and couldn't decide whether to get Holtzmann or Patty first so I closed my eyes, grabbed one, and ended up with Holtzmann. Went back today for Patty. THEY ARE OUT OF PATTY. THEY ARE OUT OF HOLTZMANN. There are a couple of Erins and an Abby left. I might check Toys R' Us after work but holy shit. On the one hand it makes me happy that people are buying the shit out of a squad of female action figures but on the other DAMMIT I NEED PATTY I have a little blind bag Patty (and Kevin, and Slimer, and Rowan in a trap) but still. Meanwhile Holtzmann is hanging out on my Wall of Ghostbusters Toys, next to my Egon figure.
Have seen twice, loved just as much the second time. Also I loved Rowan's whiny line about how he's been mistreated his whole life and four women, one of whom is Black and one of whom is plausibly queer, gave him the most intense side-eye.
And two of them literally wrote the book he got his Ghost Nerd Expertise from, and the same two were bullied their entire childhoods for Ghost Nerdery, and three of them were recently fired for it, and all four of them are being vilified in the press right now for it. So he's got exactly zero ground to stand on in the specific REASON he got mistreated, either. Basically Rowan really needs told that one bit from the beginning of The Social Network. "You're going to go through life thinking that girls people don't like you because you're a nerd interested in the paranormal. And I want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that that won't be true. It'll be because you're an asshole."
I just came back from this film and gods all I can say is Holtzmann made my mouth go dry the moment she showed up. I mean, HOLY SHIT. Tradtional hollywood six-inch-heel-and-a-thigh-holster get out plz. THIS IS WHERE THE GOOD STUFF IS. (Besides that admission, I LOVED this film. Mum had to shush me a couple of times because I got all sperglord EXCITE and forgot my volume control ^^;;;;)
I just watched this and eyyyyyy that was!! So much fun! and YES on everything everyones been saying about the big bad omg I can't say I enjoyed Every Single Moment of the movie but I can say that I had a lot of fun, that I had no desire whatsoever to leave during the credits, and that there was not a single moment during which I wanted it to be over sooner. (that last one is super rare with me and movies! generally i will get bored and distracted even if i love them a lot! ) speaking of loving things, holtzmann and patty. i. yes. good.
I just feel like everyone should know that my new ghostbusters tag is 'dream queen scream team' and I think that's perfect. (I might be a little drunk)
Just saw this. So much fun. I LOVE THEM ALL and usually like...I get real bad fremdschamen from slapstick comedy but I was ok with the humor in this?? Idk why. A lot of it was super cheesy but it was fine. Spoiler: spoilers I teared up a bit when Erin was like "I won't leave you again" and also at Holtzmann's toast, omg :'< I...I wanted more of Patty nerding about history. (I just imagined her getting mad that the pokestop descriptions in Pokemon GO are too short just like George Takei did...)
I could totally see Patty holding court at a particularly interesting Pokestop to a crowd of kids who didn't expect to be fascinated but are anyway. And then running off to catch a Haunter that just showed up.
Spoiler: post-credits stuff and Patty fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck man you know what, if that bit after the very end of the credits does in fact mean the sequel is going into Gozer territory, Patty is going to be the one throwing down blueprints of the Shandor Building and digging up all its sordid history and I am HERE FOR THIS
YALL YALL I HAVE SEEN THE GIFS ON TUMBLR I THOUGHT I WAS PREPARED I WAS NOT REMOTELY PREPARED OH MY ACTUAL GOD HOLTZMANNNNNNN i just got back and im just (first of all Hi Hello Have I Mentioned That I Am Incredibly Gay Today?) and like it was so good!!! and exciting!!! and as has been pointed out before, this pasts every variation on the bechdel test out there, it was genuinely funny but not at the expense of women or anything and it was good and i just really really really love this current trend of "genre films like the ones i watched with my dad when i was a kid, but without the gross misogyny" and i hope it continues forever. and features more shots of holtzmann licking things and being the beautiful wonderful eccentric mad scientist she is and also more vests yes
gosh the new ghostbusters is important and amazing AWESOME LADIES AND GHOSTS HELL YEAH holtzmaaaaannnnnnnnn :D :D :D need more history nerding from patty, stat. everything has creepy history, please tell us all the creepy history. good lady friendships i just good
Target had ONE Patty today. Mine now. :D (also I'm having way too much fun thinking about her playing kickball with Rowan's head there)
Oh man, I want figures but I have nowhere to put them rn, mine are all packed away because my room is so teeny. I gotta install a shelf.
Same boat here, I just stick a push pin in the wall and hang the package on it, partly because I have some lingering "DON'T OPEN THAT, IT'LL BE WORTH MONEY SOMEDAY" fleas from my grandma and partly because it just makes a neat wall display.
