I don't want to be concupiscent with you any more, but I'll always hate you...in a pale way.

(Don't question it. Even I'm not sure how that works.)

I know, Lise my love. I just... had to try.

Technically, there are no rules under which 'drunkedness' would be grammatically correct. There might be times when it's the right word for the actual concept you're trying to get at, but the formal rules of English grammar as codified by the academy as a whole are not concerned with the emotional reasons you might prefer to use this improper construction.

Of course, English is a living language, and new ways of using it crop up all the time. People didn't have "feels" when I was a kid. On the other hand, "ain't" was a perfectly acceptable word several hundred years before that. The formal rules of English grammar as generally accepted by academics in the universe I came from change much more slowly than actual English usage does. Their primary function in many situations is to exclude people who grew up speaking lower-class dialects and find them difficult to absorb when they have to learn them as adults. And that may actually have been their primary function to begin with, given that academia a the time of their codification was largely the province of well-to-do white men.

That doesn't mean I won't rag Stan about his bad grammar when he's giving me shit, of course.

You are like Bill only in the sense that you are immortal, have nearly limitless power, and did not naturally evolve in a material universe.

In other words, you are like Bill in the same sense that I am like Adolf Hitler.

But you have a moral sense, and empathy, and concern for the welfare of others. Bill has none of those things.

Let me put it to you this way. Bill could have used you to great advantage against us but he chose not to do so.

There are only two possible reasons for that. One of them is that it slipped his mind...which seems unlikely.

The other is that he realised you're powerful enough that you could do him some serious damage, you were unlikely to go along with his program once you saw what it really entailed, and he was aware that as he isn't naturally a material being, he probably couldn't actually control you, and you might figure that out.

Material beings are far less powerful than you, but we have one advantage in 10-space that Bill does not.

We belong here. We can keep things here by binding them to ourselves or our possessions. That probably wouldn't work so well for Bill.

That sounds like a sensible plan. You might not ascend involuntarily anyway, but if you do, we'll see if we can get you back.

Unfortunately, we might have to bind and then free you to do that.

Congessi, my dear--it's not rude for you to call me Ford if I ask you to.

Technically I have several bondeds, if bonded includes both what you're calling 'conjunx' (Valiska) and 'amica' (Jame is my moirail, and Sev is Valiska's moirail; I also have a moirail named Moira, but she's been travelling and I haven't seen her in a very long while). That's not an exact correspondence, but it's close. Also, Valiska and Jame are sworn-sisters, and Severin and I are sworn-brothers.

And I'm part of a large crew, but it's Valiska's crew. *grins* The girls even call her Admiral sometimes.

As for the language issue...I'm always happy to explain things, unless I'm in the middle of something I'd prefer to finish--but I'll explain them later if that's the case. It did sound rather like you intended for me to explain the whole language, and were offering to teach me Licentan.

That might be fun when things are not so busy for both of us.

Jame's crew is part of Valiska's crew. And you are therefore part of both, and a Pines if you want to be.

You wouldn't have to be not a Delacroix to also be a Pines.

Valiska and I are not also Beijaden only because we don't want to be part of the Beijada family.

There's nothing to be sorry for, your feelings are your feelings.

And there's also a big difference between 'too soon' and 'never'. Though it would be fine if you never wanted to take the name. I only mentioned it because you said you were an honorary Pines. I don't want you to think that you can't use the family name IF you want to.

How many Robins you think you can fit in one nest, Poindexter?

And does that mean Sev is my brother too?

I don't get to decide who joins the teenagers' clade, Stanley. I just think it's cute how they all sleep in a nest.

And the other thing is up to you and Sev, but among the cattes the brotherhood is transitive, except for any romantic feelings that might have been part of the impetus.

Are you speaking from a "cultural perspective", Sixer?

    *makes air quotes*

Or are you actually admitting you have those feelings for once?

Stanley? You are cordially invited to go fuck yourself. If there were any feelings to admit, you would actually not be the first person on my list to tell.

    Sorry.

Except for the part where I'm not sorry.
