    So uh. ASMR, anyone?

    I started watching ASMR videos because I saw people talking about them and I was like, "Okay well I'll watch one to see what all the hubbub is about," and then I was like, "THERE IS A LADY PRETENDING TO EXAMINE MY EARS AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE RELAXED???"

    So now I listen to them whenever I'm stressed or having a hard time sleeping and it's so nice. I don't really get tingles as much, but it's relaxing at least. I only get tingles if I don't actually watch them though? If i just lie down and close my eyes with my headphones, then I'm more likely to get them. They feel like someone playing with my hair or giving me a scalp and shoulder massage. It's really nice and calming!

    The videos can be kinda weird (see, lady doing a roleplay ear exam) but they're relaxing, so eh.

    So uh??? ASMR??? Let's have a thread about it, I guess.

    (If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's a Wikipedia article and here's a Vice article about it.)

    I love ASMR! I particularly like wordless ones, with unintelligible speech or no speech, rapid tapping, and ear-to-ear sounds. My favourite sensation is sounds that move very quickly from ear to ear, but I haven't found many videos of those.

    (I'll share some of my favourite videos later)

    yeah, i'm not so much a whisper fan, but like a variety of other sounds. my favourite video was one I havent been able to find again, but they were scratching the bristles on a brush.

    I have never heard of ASMR before but after watching fifteen minutes of noodle-bag stroking and eleven minutes of wooden-box tapping I conclude that I am really, really into it. I'm not getting a tingly feeling though - it's more like pressure? Very relaxing, and not unfamilar (although I usually get this kind of feeling watching people browse at yard sales or a buffet, or reading about people examining things carefully. I don't know why my brain decided that those were things that it needed to have Distinct Feelings about, brains are weird).

    I rarely get tingles, but I love the videos themselves :) I think that's quite common...

    Yeah, whispering is not really a thing for me, but it can be comforting, in a way. I prefer it if they just make sounds, like tapping or stroking things with brushes and stuff like that. I do occasionally get tingles, but it's pretty rare nwn;

    I also like gentlewhispers! She has a very calming voice. I also really love WhispersRedASMR. She does a lot of roleplay videos, but they still focus more on making sounds, which is why I like them. AlbInWonderland also has an ASMR channel called albinwhisperland. Her videos seem nice, too!

    I kinda wonder if I could make my own ASMR videos, but I wouldn't be comfortable showing my face >.>;

    ... I am kind of tempted to find these, but I tend to have issues with wearing headphones which makes listening intently to a thing hard.

    @a tiny mushroom The box-tapping person didn't show his face in the video, so I think you could make one without showing your face and it would be okay? Of course, I don't know what's standard practice for filming ASMR videos since I only just started watching them yesterday.

    Personally, I prefer that ones that don't show anyone's face and have little to no talking. I think it's hard for me to relax when I'm focusing on listening to words, and I actually feel pretty uncomfortable when people in videos stare directly at the camera.

    Bob Ross episodes, man. Not just for Bob's voice--all the painting noises are the best. Especially the really big brush tapping on the canvas noise and the palette knife scraping noises.

    Oh man, I get the ASMR tingles and pressure and relaxation everything, it is so great.

    My favorite video is this very in depth hair washing and styling one. You get everything from having the cape placed over your shoulders to loads of ear to ear head scratching/massaging noises. It's almost too perfect. I need to go listen to it again. :o

    Also, bizarrely, reading things like this: Wizardique Spa. It's a hilarious fake spa advertisement but reading it just puts my head into that fuzzy ASMR head space. Very relaxing. I assume that other spa adverts would also work, but they contain less wizards so they're just not as good.

    How do you clean a nerve. How did you come up with this idea. I presume if I watch, I'll find out.

    I know it's not technically ASMR, but I get a similar relaxed feeling from listening to podcasts. Rhythmic talking sends me nodding off in no time, which is great because I am Not Good At Sleeping.

    #i know this isn't really on topic but blame mushie over there she told me to comment

    The Wikipedia page on ASMR is very badly organized and I am here to lodge a complaint. :P

    The phenomenon seems interesting, though!

    Ok, I tried the hair salon one and experienced mild tingling, although it could have been placebo tingling. But now I'm intrigued.

    I've lately been falling asleep to them even more often, and I wake up tangled in my headphones like ?????

    I also have more channels that I like! ...Actually, I have two.

    relaxASMR and Caroline ASMR. Caroline ASMR does a lot of inaudible and unintelligble videos, which I like. Not having to try to understand what is being said makes it easier to fall asleep.

    This WhispersRed video also sent me to sleep in 5 minutes, even though she's speaking in audible English. She is kinda motherly, so I guess it's like having a parent reading you a book to put you to sleep XD
