Spoiler holy shit!!! what an episode!!! Did not expect to see Pink Diamond namedropped at all. I'd just been thinking that with the "Rose is Pink Diamond" theory dead, Pink Diamond has become a total mystery again, and it's cool to see some exploration of that! Also, the way Jasper delivers the lines "My diamond! Your diamond! PINK! DIAMOND!" gives me chills. Officially up there with my favorite voice acted lines ever alongside Bill Cipher's "The world is finally mine!" and one other that I ironically can't remember at the moment.
Spoiler Oh I don't think of it as a sex thing either, but it's intimacy and the linking of consciousnesses, which I think is almost a bigger deal? Like in a non metaphorical way, it's two beings being melded together in mind as well as body.
I think you need to re-watch Keeping It Together (Season 2, ep 8). The episode is quite clear about the importance of consent in fusion.
Spoiler: Earthlings Spoiler and Reminiscence A friend of mine just mentioned to me that we'd never heard Jasper refer to Yellow Diamond as "My Diamond." It was always Yellow Diamond's orders, and that's a rarity when it comes to Gems. Peridot does it, Sapphire did it with Blue, I wanna say Ruby did it too...But nope. Yellow Diamond. It was right there the whole time that it wasn't her Diamond. CURSE YOU DICTION
Spoiler I'm imagining a flashback or sometbing with Baby Jasp and her sisters and them all being told, hey this is what you were made to do and it don't even matter none if you didn't turn out right, if you distinguish yourself you'll earn your place in gem society at large, and everyone's all pumped and happy and eager to fufill their purpose. And then time goes on and gems drop, some too brittle some with inherent structual flaws that get hit wrong and pow, no more Snowflake, too bad, more war to be had. And so much resentment. It's not their fault they were made wrong, they didn't have enough time they weren't set right, and it sure as shit ain't Jasp's fault that she's better than them, that she keeps coming back alive when everyone else succumbs. ahhhh, the beta kindergarten, GEEZE!
so i decided to rewatch the last few episodes because can't sleep and here's a couple random things i noticed/misc. thoughts: Spoiler: spoilers from gem hunt thru earthlings obvs thing the first: the part where amethyst transforms into lars and steals a whole bunch of donuts from the big donut? sadie is totally singing the burger jingle. i didn't notice it until i rewatched it just now. ahhh this show is so good with the tiny details thing the second: smoky quartz's voice actress is Natasha Lyonne which is very !!!!!!!!! to me, personally because i love her and re-watching earthlings, i can totally hear that it's her, but she's doing such a good job of sounding like, well a fusion of amethyst and steven thing the third: i rlly rlly need a human au comic or something of peridot and lapis being Weird Art Majors living in a weird, semi-habitable apartment and their various weird Art Major shenanigans. lapis totally, unironically wears a beret and peridot is extremely dedicated to re-marathoning old episodes of the x-files. i didn't think i would ship them as much as i do, but oh my god i do, and i need to see their fusion immediately/SPOILER]

That pain, fury, and misery. It's tearing her apart to remember, maybe literally. That line was SO. GOOD.
Spoiler: Earthlings On rewatch, you know what hurts me the most? It's not Jasper saying "our diamond", though that's pretty high up there. It's not even Amethyst saying "sis". Its when Jasper's fusion with the monster breaks down, when they're up in the tornado, and she desperately grabs at it and hoarsely cries "no! we can beat them if we just stick together!" ....there was a lot of feeling in that line, and i think there's a lot of history in it too. Remember us theorizing that part of why she's like this is survivor's guilt?
Spoiler: Earthlings Does Jasper have friends? Does she have positive relationships? Her rant sort of implied that, despite coming out 'perfect' from a wonky kindergarten, she got a lot of shit for having to switch diamonds after whatever happened. I sort of feel like she is unfamiliar with positive, healthy interactions with other people at all, and that's why she can't believe Steven isn't trying to manipulate her. I had a dream she was like a team mom to the rubies...
Spoiler: earthlings? sort of? Mind you, it's not like personal tragedy is necessary for being suspicious of kindness coming from a hated enemy.
Spoiler I'm hoping the rubies are also from Beta... and are looking for their Jasper because she left for earth without them. Getting this headcanon down before it's shattered today :<

Spoiler: Earthlings Oh gosh, though. If Homeworld culls 'deformed' gems, what happened to Jasper's siblings? Is that the first thing she saw when she was created? Everyone else around her getting 'taken care of'? That would actually go a long way to explaining her attitudes on some things. She's in denial. Deformed gems get what they deserve because then she doesn't have to think about Homeworld as bad. She survived because she's good because then she doesn't have to question Pink Diamond. Etc.
Okay so this made me cry (Slight spoilers for Earthlings, I guess, if you squint?) she looks so young and happy her expression is just like Citrine I can't
*squishes gem monster's cheeks* It was "glass all the way to the back." I'd guess they melt the rock around them as they emerge? Also god I am glad we got a look at what's been going on in Jasper's head beyond "BAD GUY."
Also also I feel like Earthlings added to my guess that Jasper's a mookaite jasper? Red sand, red sandstone - looks kind of aussie red centre to me!
So, I'm seeing some Jasper/Eyeball Ruby, and I'm gathering that it has something to do with a leak? But, I mean, whatever the fuck sparked it it's honestly really cute and I'm all for it.
Spoiler: Episode: Back To The Moon Spoiler: Reactions so far All that development to say Amethyst doesn't have to be more like Jasper, and then we have this still image for the video... shakes head in faux disappointment. Doc has the best longterm memory, and Eyeball/Jasper? Turns out Eyeball is a huge (distant) Jasper fan. Unfortunately, watching Amethyst pose as her gives me the secondhand embarrassment (and a sad feeling like ":-oh noooooo" after that whole "sis" thing) something fierce, so I gotta wait to watch further.
