...Half Life is hardly responsible for my own reactions, let alone everything in the multiverse. Nothing to apologize for, in my view. At most, a jumble of misunderstanding we both contributed to.

And that's perfectly fine, but-- the breakdown itself can be the end goal, not the methods of getting there. Not arguing that Stanford should do anything that makes him or his partner(s) uncomfortable, but "misery" is a broad term and Cronus certainly wasn't very specific.

Speaking from experience: having sex with someone, even as a regular partner, is a completely different and much smaller investment of time/energy/emotions than a relationship.

Yeah, it's a different thing. A relationship is nice, but... interface can be nice even if it's just casual. And on the opposite end you've got my brother, who doesn't want to have interface at all but is fine with relationships, theoretically.
