I don't go here enough to be able to be informed about it, but maybe their rationale is because Isabela is very not kid-gloves about what Fenris has been through and her joking about it upsets them? Even though he consistently prefers that in dialogue to when people try to be delicate. They explicitly mentioned cutting at least one other thing where Isabela made an off-color joke about Fen's past.
Oh! Yeah, totally agreed on that - he's milquetoast but not the kind that's interesting to the stans. They want a pretty, perfect Prince Charming. Sebastian is pretty, but perfect or Prince Charming he isn't. Another thing I find interesting about him that the stans try to excuse away is how nasty he can get when he's thwarted and how long he can hold a grudge. Take the end of the game, and how if you don't Spoiler: da2 spoilers murder Anders there and then, he storms off with threats to invade the city. He's understandably angry, but he's 1. demanding Hawke execute one of their friends right in the street while 2. there's a huge crisis starting because of Meredith, then 3. he storms off if Hawke doesn't acquiesce, and 4. tries to take over Kirkwall years after Anders has left. That nasty streak is interesting. Trying to justify it away makes him really boring. (which doesn't even begin to touch on it but I'm tired and what are words.)
Yeah! I mean, there's a reason his first impression for the player is "that guy with Revenge Issues™". His vindictive streak and hard-headedness when he gets like that may not come up too often, but they're clearly supposed to be an important part of his character.
Spoiler: the da2 liveblog saga continues I just finished the quest where Leandra dies, which creeped me out almost as much as the broodmother lead-up in Origins. The disjointed broken-doll reanimated thing in a wedding dress was just-- eughhh. *flail* Agatha: I came to Kirkwall to kick ass and protect my family, and I'm all out of family!!1! Varric: Your uncle is alive. Agatha: Eh, fuck THAT guy.

I just keep repeating the phrase "folically challenged hermit" to myself out loud and then doing the kind of ugly laughter where you actually bang your hand against the table as you laugh
I probably should have come here earlier, but -shrugs- I am a massive DA2 fan (DA:I is good as well but not as much and I haven't managed to yet slog my way through DA:O's clunky graphics) and I've played mostly Fenris (some others, but he speaks to me the most) in RP for almost - three years now? Gods, we're going through a break period atm because she wants to pursue her other OTP (solavellan, we both think he is awful trash but Solas is so punchable it's kind of sexy in a pitch way) but I have been blessed with the best Hawke partner for most of that time. Also, fuck those guys who think Fenris/Isabela is wrong. They're two proud people who survived bad shit and need a little fun in their life. (Also I headcanon that Isabela is very good for letting Grumpy Stripe Elf relearn healthy intimacy, which he needs.)
I wonder if their gripe is that the devs implied that it's not a serious or long term thing? A lot of people have this terrible mindset that if a relationship isn't serious and or isn't intended to be forever, it's bad and a waste of time (thinking which leads people to cling to relationships that are long past their natural lifespan). Nevermind that it's clearly a good experience for both of them and shows that Fenris is learning healthy intimacy. (I'd argue he's learning it for the first time, since as far as we know he never got healthy intimacy at all.)
