While the explanations are helpful and appreciated, it is this "allowing" (or, I suspect, mental training) that presents issues. I likely don't need external sensors, optic wiring, or a visual cortex to see in this space, but if I somehow damaged my optics-- or even offlined or shuttered them intentionally-- I would likely have problems parsing visual data until I fixed the physical cause, whether through willing it so or self-surgery or some other means. It will... take some time to become accustomed to the idea that damage need not register as pain, or even occur at all.

Most people here are from very different places and it would be foolish to think we'll never find topics that bother someone, but I don't see that as a reason to avoid talking in the first place, so long as we're willing to choose clarification over battle when such disconnects occur.
