I used to have something resembling the third cut (though not quite as long on top) and my solution was hair-colored hair clips. or, if I didn't want to fuck around with those, a stretchy soft headband. sometimes you gotta sacrifice not looking like a dork for practicality. also I didn't get it trimmed as often as I should've, and it depends on how fast your hair grows, but I'd say... every two months, maybe? depends how short you want to keep the sides and back. if you bought an electric hair clipper and maintained them yourself, you could probably go a lot longer than that before you'd need a trim.

Having just bought a thing of e.l.f. BB cream only to find it just looks weird on me (no testers available whoops), i'm posting this as a combination question and reminder.

Question: is someone willing to help me figure out what the heck kind/shade of bb cream would actually work for me? Or, point me to stuff that will help me figure out what my skin type is, wtf shade/undertone i am, etc?

And reminder to self: do not impulse buy makeup even if it's only 8 dollars jfc
I might have had better luck with the $18 loreal colour matching cream or whatever but 18 bucks is intimidating even tho i can spare it

@Everett you can go to any sephora & they'll do this color iq thing that'll tell you what your foundation shade is supposed to be, & i believe you don't have to buy anything, it's free. Once you know the color they should give you a bunch of matches, then there's this website called like findation or smth you can use to see other foundations that will match you

Temptalia's foundation matrix is a good one. you put a foundation shade that looks good on you and it gives other options.

lemme ask: why did it look weird? too light? too dark? cause you can always mix it with other stuff that's not a right match either.

@Choco unfortunately I moved away from my parents' city, which has a sephora now, to a city where I could maybe go to the drugstore or theres like two makeup places in the mall. But i think theyre a salon so i would probably have to buy a... there's a word for it, the makeup equivalent of getting your hair styled, and then ask them what shade they used.

@witchknights i have a concealer that sort of matches? It is.... Rimmel match perfection 230, "fair/light". I say sort of because I don't remember if it has issues but i'm not confident in saying it matches perfectly.

(ETA: oops i abruptly switch to talking about the e.l.f. foundation)
The issue, idk it looks too dark but idek how to tell what colour or undertone my face is? My impulse is to say it's too orange for me, could just be too dark. Also, especially on my nose it just looks... maybe i put too much on, or its not supposed to go on the nose? But it looks dry. Could be an issue with it being semi matte.

I have a couple of foundations that i left back at my parents' house because they look weird. One, i didn't notice that it went on liquid but dried with a powder finish? So it just looked really dry and was probably the wrong shade.

Another, i forget but it was just the wrong shade i think.

I have something that's a bit of a life-saver for foundations that are the right undertone but too dark, which is life's entropy white elixir - pure white pigment to mix with other cream products. i really recommend it.

i think the easiest way to tell your undertone is checking the color of your veins - if they're green-ish you have a warm undertone, blue are cool, and a mostly even mix is neutral.

you could try moisturizing if you don't already. i have combo normal-oily skin and even then if i dont moisturize well before applying makeup it looks weird ):

i am just. very tired of long hair!!! i like the IDEA of long hair, and i like seeing my hair and going 'nice that's pretty long', but it's a pain in the ass, takes too long to dry, gets too tangled, and i can't style hair for shit!!! i havent had short hair since i was a kid, though.

so y/n?? i am Bad At Hair so i don't want to make a dumb decision here. my hair is super super thin, ftr. will being shorter make it less flat? PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR HAIR WISDOM

HELLO COSMETOLOGY STUDENT HERE 2 HELP

a shorter cut will absolutely look cute on you, will likely make your hair less flat (longer hair weighs more so pulls down more so looks flatter) and if you want more volume a styling product like a light mousse and blowdrying volume into your hair will also help u avoid flat if that's what you want!!

@applechime i 100% sympathize with your feelings re: long hair, and my solution was to chop it all off so??? i waited until it was long enough to cover my boobs so i could pretend i was a mermaid and then it was GONE

i think you would look v cute with short hair!!!! please share pictures!!!!

@hanka CURLY HAIR TIPS from another jew with difficult hair 8)))

layers will save u because they preserve the curls and length and also make ur head feel less like it has a hundred pounds on it. . . also, for styling: after washing it, when u get out of the shower pat or scrunch it dry with a towel, don't rub. while its still damp, run a comb through it and then scrunch ur hair with ur hands. optional: do that with leave-in conditioner or product that helps with curls. never ever ever sleep with a wet head or ur fucked forever with woody woodpecker hair.

Ok I apologize for switching away from makeup for a second but I have recently upped my menswear game and I am Too Excite about it and needed to share

Basically I've been in the questioning phase for nigh on seven years at this point, and over the course of that time I have been accumulating menswear at an excruciatingly slow rate. Lack of parental support for agab non-conformism meant I had to cobble together menswear-inspired womenswear pieces for many many years, which, if anyone is familiar with the process, is horrendous if you are an afab person trying to look like a cis guy. I felt awkward and weird and looked kind of ridiculous for a really long time.

Only relatively recently (over the course of the last two-ish years) have my parents allowed me to get clothes from the men's section. Even now they don't totally support it, but at least they're less active about forcing me into women's clothes when I don't want to wear them. So anyway. This outfit--parts of which I acquired within the last week or so--represents a kind of culmination for me. That sounds really dumb, but it's taken me so long to actually get to a place where I am in possession of menswear that fits and looks good on me (imho), that I feel comfortable in, that fits my mental image of myself, that makes me go "oh damn" a little bit when I see myself in the mirror.

    So. The outfit in question!

I've become the best-dressed English professor on campus.
