I have finished the second book and relayed my thoughts to Morven over skype. I have looked at the first paragraph of the third book.

There are many people who need to learn obedience and there are many people who need "proper clothes". Jame is not among them. Tori however is. That Tori needs to be put in a dress and treated like a proper lady by his sister is clearly the most important takeaway from the second book. Clearly.

He's so worried about his sister destroying him and yet he acts in exactly the way most likely to make it happen.

Tori is just bad at life in general honestly.

Anyway, so I mentioned fursonas to you the other day and I decided to compile a list here so it won't get lost in skype. Also so other people can suggest their own ideas for fursonas for these shits!

    • Jame, a house cat. A fluffy black one. Very fancy cat. Has white tuft of fur on her chest though like a cait sidhe so clearly she is EVIL incarnate.
    • Tori, a house cat. Almost entirely identical to his sister save that he is a bit taller. He is just as poofy though. Also bears the mark of EVIL SOUL STEALING CAT.
    • Marc, a highland bull. Shaggy. Big. Full of love.
    • Cleppety, some sort of bird? I am thinking a hen maybe. Some sort of bird though definitely. She bothers about too much not to be one.
    • Grimly, do we even need to say it.
    • Graykin, a weasel or ferret. Something nice and slinky and prone to stealing socks. Smells like a ferret hence what Lyra calls him.
    • Lord Caineron, a wolf. The world's douchiest wolf.
    • Lyra, some sort of show dog. Fancy looking. Bitchy.
    • Burr, an ox. Very big. Can pick up Tori with one arm. Does so regularly.
    • Ishtier, a parrot. Very neurotic. Constantly scheming.
    • Jame THE MOTHER EDITION, a house cat. The prettiest house cat of them all. Also has the white tuft.
    • Bane, a mutt. Something that just says "dog" and not much else. The essence of dog.
    • Dally, a capuchin monkey. Or some other small primate like that.
    • Gerridon, some sort of stupid hybrid. Like some bullshit like a bat-wolf-snake. It is stupid. It is overpowered. Drawn by the right person it is horrifying.
    • Jorin, still an ounce. Just a normal regular ounce. He is basically the Snarf of the group now. Except not detestable and instead very lovable.
    • Ardeth, an elephant. I don't know. I just like him as one.
    • Bortis, a fox. Stealer of hearts. Biggest douche. Hence fox.
    • Harn, an Irish wolfhound. Big. Loyal. But fierce and terrifying to his foes.

Love these. Cleppetty is certainly some kind of mother bird. Hen or goose. Always running around with things to do and fussing over her brood of babies but the reason I like goose is that there's a streak of fierce in there underneath. She doesn't run away from things.

Graykin is perfect as a ferret.

Caineron is some smug fat douchewolf who's read too many ABO werewolf fics and thinks he's an alpha.

Lyra gets some character development but I can see that.

Burr's definitely bigger than Tori but I never got the impression he was enormous, but I could be wrong. But then everyone's bigger than Tori except Jame (and many humans).

I'm chuckling at your one for Gerridon. He thinks he's so badass like a teenage edgelord.

Ardeth as a human is some really elf-looking person, like the ancient elves you'll see in some art, all white wispy long hair and wrinkled like an ancient tree that's withstood hurricanes. I do think the Kencyr Highborn are elf-like in general, and the author's art makes them look like elf-cat-hybrids with huge slanting eyes. I would not be 100% surprised at pointy ears at least for some. An elephant doesn't mimic his external appearance at all but it does feel accurate to picture his inner nature.

Harn is totally a big wolfhound.

I made Burr huge not because he is huge in the books necessarily but because I want him to be. Because really now some big ass ox man carrying a very upset house cat boy with one arm would be hilarious.

Also Cleppety as a goose is perfect. Let's go with that actually.

Started on the fourth book now. She has been here like ten minutes and already hell is being raised. Jesus Jame.

Also is Jame finally realizing she has a libido.

Is Tori jealous that his sister is drinking with another man.

WHY AREN'T YOU TWO FUCKING YET.

Why does everyone try to rape Tori. Leave Tori's dick alone. The boy has enough anxiety as is he doesn't need to be fearing that every last woman he comes across is going to pull his pants down.

Holy shit that dream. On the one hand wow Jame you elbowed him in the face. On the other hand wow why haven't you two had sex yet. Jesus. Your parents' bed is involved in his dreams and she's on top of him and just.

    God.

Also these are very accurately written children.

AND TORI AND PUPPIES. ALL THE PUPPIES. HE IS SLEEPING IN A PUPPY PILE AFTER ROUGHHOUSING WITH THEM. OH MY GOD MY DREAMS CAME TRUE.

OtherCat a being of mysterious happenstance

The Randir Heir that was kicked out when he was visibly...not normal. I don't remember his name.

He shows up (I think) in the first of the "Jame Goes to Military School" books.

catching up on this and found something to comment on:
i figure both Jami and Kindrie both for thematic reasons [destroy the infection and preserve the host] and because Tori really REALLY needs to connect with the family he actually still has and not turn into a puppet of a failed Highlord that made a deal with the enemy then went mad

you also have the PTSD parallels where you need outside help to keep you grounded while you process shit...Tori just needs to get to the point where he's ready to process it and who knows when that'll be :/

yeah he did. i don't remember exactly when it was said (maybe during the scene with the lady that needed lenses in her mask?) but there was a scene where he made a comment about doing something similar to Tori that was done to him. which is a clear reference to the blood binding-assisted molestation he suffered at the hands of his older brother. although from the scene where he kissed Jami then threw her to the side in self disgust at nearly being like his brother i don't think he ever molested Tori

    mindfucked? yes. molested? maybe not.

it's implied that Tori is a much stronger bloodbinder than his dad though, so he has a chance to escape it. but first he has to stand up to his dad's ghost

    i'm sorry XD
all i can think of from this is the Feudal Lord and Handmaid meme

but yeah. one of the appeals of the series is that the male Chosen Ones are given traditionally feminine roles (healer/preserver, creator/recreator), and the lone female is given the most masculine role of all (destroyer/breaker)

its a nice Fuck You to a whole host of tropes

Randiroc is his name. The missing heir.

Also my thirst for the twins fucking continues. You little shits. Stop being so difficult. God damn you. GODS DAMN YOU BOTH. ESPECIALLY YOU TORI.

Though at least I can deal with this frustration with my pointlessly sprawling twinswap AU that I have written all of one actual thing for (and several fragments of things) and I guess the rp character. YES. MY TWINSWAP AU WITH ALL THE SEX.

and yet the relationship is not really any better

    at all

MY TWINSWAP AU ALSO HAS TINY LYRA LEARNING TO DANCE FROM TOTALLY ACTUALLY JAME WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT YES I AM THE HIGHLORD'S TOTALLY FEMALE SISTER WHY YES HELLO LOOK AT MY STITCHES.

Also my theory as to why Ganth is in his head is the bestest theory that beats ALL OF YOURS FOREVER. It is "cuz". This is a beautiful theory. It is motherfucking foolproof. It cannot be disproven. Though my actual serious theory is "because this is thematically appropriate to a father unwilling to let go of his children, the overbearing parent, and like father like son". Which is to say that really Hodgell could say that Ganth is in Tori's head because one day Tori found a weird looking hermit crab that he named Ted. The themes behind it mean more to me than the actual details as to why and so I don't actually think about the plot too hard.

    MY THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMES.

& I think Hodgell would agree with you there, Aon. She's big into theme. Some themes definitely are intimately woven into these stories. Family, death, gender roles.

That's the one. Remember he has his horse fitted with a removable plug on an artery so he can drink blood from it? And Harn is shown as having given him blood, too. Randiroc can only consume blood and honey and honey hurts his teeth.

It's fascinating also that the Randir already have a part-Kendar Lord and don't realize it.
