Regarding transformation: species of shapeshifters though most are bound to two, occasionally three forms. Any replacement parts for us should be as close to original model as possible to avoid... complications.

...it should not be as surprising as it is that Demmel didn't just take the metal-- ah, walk frond? from someone else, of course there probably aren't many just lying around when the species is primarily organic! Also, pulling the supplies together is probably easier on such a small scale =]
