Before I Get Banned

Hello, I'm new to the forum and just want to introduce myself before I get banned. Hopefully this thread won't get locked before people can read it.

My name is Zach, you can also call me Z or Zoey or tickingnectarine or whatever. I'm a 23 year old nerd living in the pacific northwest, and I like typical nerd things like anime and cartoons and comics and cosplay and discussing fictional characters and alternate universes, etc.

I think I'm gonna like talking to people here, and I hope I can be a decent enough person that you can find what I say interesting or likeable. Hopefully this will be a good opportunity for me to make connections with people by talking about stuff online, and hopefully it will go better than the last time I was part of a forum community.

If anyone wants to know more about me, feel free to ask anytime.

Why so you think you´ll immediately get banned? Permabans really aren´t a thing on this forum, seebs is very opposed to them.

 

Yeah, our benevolent dictator doesn't perma-ban, so you should be fine. Are you planning on exploding, though? (Your username suggests bombs to me, for some reason.)

Regarding the ban thing, I don't really believe people don't get banned or censored on this forum. I've been banned from a forum before (specifically from tvtropes) for being too emotional and aggressive regarding certain topics, and while I've in a fairly good mood lately I know it's just a matter of time before it happens again.

Regarding the ticking, no I'm not a bomb, I'm a clock. Fruit doesn't explode, silly! Well, not most fruit...

 

Poking around the Meta forum might give you a better idea of how Seebs runs the forum. There are some people banned from certain forums, but only ever at their request as a means to avoid topics for one reason or another.

Huh. This is a very strange way to run a forum compared to what I've experienced in the past. It sounds nice but I will admit I still have my suspicions. Thank you, Seebs.

Strange as in uncommon, maybe, but it's wonderfully effective and leads to a great community!

There's no sense in excluding people for being Too Bad from a forum that has self-improvement as one of its primary functions, that would contradict the purpose of this place being here. :P

 

I don't have any more questions, but I found the anime thread! There are some other ones for particular shows, but that's the general one.

@seebs I thought a nectarine was like an orange but I looked it up and apparently it is like a peach, but without the fuzz.

 

You was probably thinking tangerine. But they don't normally tick, either.

 

Okay, I'm curious about the name. How did you come up with it?

 

Nectarines are not tangerines and nectarines are delicious. Basically what Elainar said, they're very similar and closely related to peaches (and more distantly related to roses, apples, pears and such).

Edit- I came up with the name because one day at lunch I was eating a nectarine and heard a very faint ticking sound coming from it. To this day I don't know what it was, but it stuck with me.

 

I always thought nectarines were a cross between peaches and plums, but apparently they're not! Learned something new today. Apparently non-fuzzy skin is caused by the recessive allele! Fuzz is dominant.

Edit: Welcome! I have a nectarine that needs eating and I'm seriously hoping it's not ticking because I don't even know what that would mean.

 

It would mean that Captain Hook would always be able to hear you coming.
