Yeah! Y'can change your name, why not your sign? Sil's's, like, this sunburst thing, Cogs is an unimaginative nerd who just uses an 8-spoked cog... Rust ain't usin' one yet either, 'cuz he kinna forgot a lotta stuff and he hasn't picked a new one yet!

[She stares openly at Oneira's scars.] Wowch. And you can't go out for, like, half the... sweep? How long's a sweep, is that like a lunar cycle or a season or...?

It'd depend on how organic it was and whether or not it fits into the arbitrary standards of my powers, honestly. It's not just blood, blood's just the easiest for me to control of all the bodily fluids that I really don't wanna elaborate on.

I'm the only person with my particular skillset, but I'd say we're like... thirty percent of the population? Something like that. Most people have physical defects, not magical ones that grant cool powers.

Now he is grinning in earnest and nods his respect to the peculiar gray girl.
"Quite so. It's a good one, if I may say so."

  4. -Acheta sighs and sits down at the bar.-
Do you have red bush tea~?

  5. -Theresa takes some time to examine the cup before sampling the coffee, then raises an eyebrow-
...Would you perchance consider letting me know where you source this? I run my own tea house, you see...

  11. Julian Bashir

Julian Bashir In my expert medical opinion, it's sick.

Speaking as a member of his species, albeit one from a different timeline, I can't say there are very many of us at all with any sort of special abilities! That is, assuming you aren't considering preternatural strength, stamina, or intelligence as part of that category, but that didn't seem to be what was up for discussion.

It's absolutely fascinating that humans could develop these powers, I wonder how out timelines differ that this could be possible. It could be a quirk of evolution, or a localized anomaly. My God, if only I could get my hands on a multidimensional transporter...

"Huh! We start out with hatchnames, which are given to us by our lusus, which you don't get to change. Hatchnames have a two times six letters format. As adults, we assume more descriptive titles, which are eight letter long, and sometimes change based on certain events. Spoiler for my own timeline: Mine's Fraywing. My ancestor was Arbalest Snowfang, but she got conflated with a few other trolls into the mythical figure Lumipyry, which is a local dialect word for 'blizzard'. Signs don't get changed, ever - they're intricately linked to us."

    Oneira grins back. "Coffee?"

Oneira spoons some dried plant matter (berries? petals?) into a tea sieve, and adds it to a mug with some hot water. "Here you go."

Oneira smiles, proudly. "We get the best coffee beans caegars can buy from he tropical belt. Not the sour type though, the bitter ones. I roast and grind them myself, keeps the flavour, and I can play around some. These here were roasted with brown sugar, for example. Machine grinds tend to have weaker flavour, probably because they had chance to air out before getting anywhere near hot water."

"Though I hope you understand I am dutibound to like my wife's coffee better than yours," He says with a joking tone.

  18. That is interesting. I'm afraid I don't have the time these days to oversee the processes in the kitchen myself, but perhaps they are due for a shake-up...

-she pats him on the cheek-
Of course you are, my d-

Oneira probably wanted to go for a sickeningly sweet and innocent smile, but it's smug instead.
"What was that? I didn't quite hear you over her asking for my source."
She hands him a cup much like the one she gave Theresa.
