The matter of Federation economics is a difficult one. Why, are you planning a vacation?

 

Oar is unpleasant, self-centered, and conceited, thus his inclusion in the list of "people who should really not be diplomats but somehow are anyway." Wouldn't call meeting him a pleasure, but... 1) may be biased, 2) don't know Julian well enough to predict whether the meeting would at least be enlightening.

As for "vacation"-- not directly, no, but if current assignment goes slagways it is... useful to know what options are available. If, like the Galactic Council, the Federation enforces its "peaceful" territory boundaries with extreme prejudice against mechanoid lifeforms or outsiders or whatever, I certainly wouldn't want to try and run towards those borders! There are always fringeworlds, but... even then, some prejudices hold. Better to know before we have to deal with locals who may or may not be hostile, yes?

Things always go badly. Maybe not soon, maybe not avoidable, but... the more I plan now, the less I'll have to research on the fly when I'll have eight hundred other things to think of as well. "A scout, a noncombatant, and a jet" is the start of a joke, not an easily-hideable crew, much as I love both of my dearest. The more favorable places we know of, the better.
