Spoiler: future boy zoltron I'm glad other people think Mr. Smiley and Mr. Frowny were a couple. I had the same thought, but I don't trust my own intuition when it comes to things of a romantic nature, so it's nice to have corroboration. I was surprised that none of the Beach City residents recognized Steven. Him giving them all sage advice while in disguise was adorable, though.

Spoiler: future boy zoltron Gosh, this was just the cutest thing. <3 Garnet is SO COOL. Best square mom. I'm certain the misters have a romantic relationship together in their past. I know I'm prone to shipping goggles, but J doesn't have any sort of tendency toward shipping goggles and he picked up on the romantic vibe, SOOOO I'mma take this one as a set up for future developments.
Spoiler I honestly don't know what you guys are talking about. I don't see the romance subtext, but it's possible I'm a far dumber rock than the crystal gems. They definitely care about each other, I can see that. Also am I the only one disappointed by the ending? It just feels... Inconclusive.

*plops down in thread* hello yes i am here for the Gay Rocks Spoiler: new ep! oh my gosh that was really cute and sweet??? garnet is Lovely, steven is Wonderful, and the misters were really good!!! just. that was a really nice ep. i think someone's said it before (though i'm not sure if it was here or on tumblr) but eps about the residents of beach city other than the crystal gems are always Cool, especially since they flesh out the side characters more, and to me that's Really Important. i just love this show a whole bunch!
Spoiler: haven't actually seen episode yet but i think the think about steven universe is that if something feels gay it's probably canon? idk since as i said i haven't seen it yet, but i feel like even if it isn't said IMMEDIATELY it will probably be canon
Spoiler: fbz My take on it is that even if it's not canon, the Crewniverse almost definitely knows that some people will interpret it that way, but they probably also approve of that and are happy for people to take that angle - as opposed to queerbaiting via setting something up and then going "ha ha how could you silly fans possibly think those gross gay thoughts about our totally #nohomo show". While watching the episode I did think "hey, they could have been a couple", but I was busier thinking "ahahaha is it just me who thinks this guy could be Paul McGann".
(not really spoilery? like, no more than the ep title itself is a spoiler?) Mindful Education is helping me to finally detach the concept of "mindfulness" from my cult memories! I'm starting to be able to use and appreciate mindfulness without it triggering cultfeels! This is such a good and important show. <3
(Beating @mizushimo to the punch here) So I saw a theory about one potential tiny bit of foreshadowing in Future Boy Zoltron, and, they totally would do that, wouldn't they? Spoiler: spoilers-ish? for Future Boy Zoltron but not really When the "lucky numbers" are mentioned, I heard "and W" instead of "N W" but I could be totally wrong here.
Yeah, that's some gravity fallsesque shenanigans going on. People might be reading too much into things, but it's all fun
You know, something that bugs me not just with this show, but with Homestuck as well, is how everything has some kind of hidden meaning or significance. How am I ever supposed to write something? I can't write at this level.
At least in Homestuck's case though, most of the significance was added after the fact. You just make up random stuff, re-read what you wrote, and make it all link together behind the scenes. This is also why the second half of Homestuck contains some pretty enormous retcons.
Also Rebecca Sugar has a whole TEAM of writers to help her, so like. Of course you can't write on that level. You're only one person. And if you want a story with a similar level of complexity that's internally consistent AND basically a one-person job, well. That's A Song of Ice and Fire. And it takes George R. R. Martin YEARS to write each volume. So don't sweat it. Write your stories in the mode that feels best for you, and they'll turn out just fine.
