As someone who's been through four million years of active combat, I have quite a bit of sympathy for that, actually. I've got rather overactive battle protocols myself. However, I've learned to fight for my objectivity beyond them - I've found, very recently even, that making decisions with them active is very bad for me. Everyone is at different stages in their own recovery, and I won't push you at that - but no matter where you are, you are still responsible for the consequences of your own actions. There are reasons, not excuses.

Also, as Nichrome said, sparkling and protoform are the immature developmental stages of my species.

 

We're not that closely related to machines, is my point. A gunnery station on an alien planet is no more kin to me than a tree is to you. Flower petal. My dearest daffodil.

 

Also, only some of us are ever 'built', and even then the 'spark of life', which is the actual spark, comes from weird processes we don't really understand. It's not quite the same as a race of mechanicals that were designed and built by organics, although I suppose the latter could also be people, and I'm not sure how you'd go about testing that...?

The concept is somewhat similar to convergent evolution - while it may appear outwardly the same, they are radically different internally, as are the factors leading to their development. I could give you all the details, but I don't want everyone to have to wade through them.

You'd have to develop something a bit better than the Ambus test, at least. While revolutionary for its time, it could... use updating.

And yes, the spark, which is partially analogous to the human anatomical heart and somewhat similar to the concept of a soul, is the essential animating element of our species. As with much of our knowledge, clear information about the spark has been lost.

Hard to tell if your ti-- omnics are sentient or not when you've got sadistically powerful God Programs like Anubis and Athena running around. Is it smart and human or is it just a trap from an A.I. that some dumb fuck gave too much power? Kill them all just in case.

There was a group that pulled away to form a monistary. Lead by an Omnic named Mondatta whom was assassinated by Widowmaker because Talon wanted him dead. I won't share my views on that particular mission.

Yeah, people can make pretty convincing non-sapient systems from where we're from! If something that is potentially someone is trying to kill you, I'd figure self-defense is the same either way.

Well, if they are trying to kill you, whether they're sentient or not is irrelevant, I would think. It doesn't mean that if they're not, you can't use your objectivity.
