Con season is almost upon us in the Pacific Northwest, and it's time to pull out the glitter, hot glue, fray check and get some cosplay ready for the big day!

Vent, commiserate, brag, show off, advise. Cosplay is Hella difficult and we need all the help we can get.

Oh yeah, feel free to post pics! I'd love to see everyone's hard work.

Tights disaster story: God I hate sewing, I'mean so awful at it. Last night I was trying reset a yellow diamond on my Peridot tights. First I removed the wrong one, so I had to sew them both back on. Then I forgot that small, sparse stitches was the way to go, I secured the points too tightly, so when I put them on, I ripped a small hole in the knee.

Arghgvhhhhhh. 2 hours of work and the garment is worse off then when I started.

I'm gonna be trying to make a john egbert godtier cosplay this year!
though only some parts will probably be home made
    hmm
I could probably get just plain cyan pajama pants, or even make those with my bit of sewing knowlage, though I have always made flowier things, pants are scary.
as for the shirt, I could almost certainly get a cyan blue shirt for it, and then I'd need to make and attach the hood. which shouldnt be too hard, its just a cone with a bend in it. and there are numerous tutorials out there for heir hoods.
the symbol might be difficult, but I think I could get it vinyl pressed onto it at school, for maybe a few dollars, or maybe free cause I'm in fashion. I'd need to cut the vinyl how I wanted it (or program it into the computer there for the breath symbol, I dont know when in fashion we learn to do that) and then you just place it where you want and put it in the press

the shoes would probably be big yellow slippers, or I could probably sew felt or fleece onto a pair of value village cheap runners. paint the bottoms blue.
my glasses are the right shape, my eyes the right colour, and if I keep my hood up (necessary for the con, because other wise hood tail gets in the way) then my hair looks good.
    hmm
I can't wait to learn more about sewing in my fashion class so that I can make better and better costumes :P

things i should be doing: making repairs to my horns from last con, sewing the diamonds onto my harley jumpsuit, picking up accessories for humanstuck kurloz

what i'm actually doing: completely redesigning my scarecrow cosplay from the ground up one month before the con.

@Imoyram i will forever recommend plimsolls/PE shoes like this for easy shoe modding! they cost peanuts and they're a flat surface to paint on - they take fabric paint/acrylic rly well. worked for my sollux shoes, could work the same for john? it wouldn't be hard to sew fleece over them if you really wanted the fuzzies.

Gearing up for Rose City Comic Con this weekend. Re-gluing peri's wig. I'm so glad I don't have to style from scratch!

  8. I'm going to be working on a costume for Pearl from Steven Universe. I've got the top and I think I have the sash, but what's the best way to get the star on the front? Fabric paint? Sewing? Iron-on? What do you guys suggest?

depends what fabric you're using for the top i'd say

for my derse jammies i appliqued the moon on because i hate myself :') but my homestuck shirts are all fabric paint or iron ons

  10. I don't even know what appliqué is. I've done an iron-on before for my Jake shirt, but that's it.

I've done paint before for a jade cosplay. The appliqué could probably work, as could the iron on?
There's also vinyl heat press, but that requires those supplies, but those might just be fancy iron ons?

I've never ironed anything on, but I hand sewed some felt diamonds onto nylon tights, and that ended up working out ok. Fabric paint is probably the easies as long as you have/make a stencil, that's what I did with my equius shirt.

I think people would get it if you made/acquired the ghostbusters onesie to wear.

  14. I think I'm gonna go with an iron-on since I don't know how to sew and haven't tried fabric paint. wish me luck.

And now I just need luck with the shoes. It shouldn't be this hard to find mint green flats in a women's size 11. Or in a men's size fucking anything.

  16. Thanks for the suggestion on the paint, I think I'm gonna try that.

Would any of you guys happen to know where I can find an iron-on star for Pearl's shirt?

You should check etsy for pearl cosplay stuff if no one has better suggestions

Con season is starting for me and so it's time to get started. Now to find a way to turn a 200 lb human into this.

So far I've got a paper mock up for the wig done and a shirt and tights to tear apart for the underclothes that will become the leaf armor.

Wow, that's a very ambitious cosplay! Are you going to use wire in the material to give those leaves their shape?

I'm going to be using craft foam for most of the leaves. Though I'm thinking of stiffing up some fabric for the ones in the back to make it easier to move and sit without messing them up
