The whole episode was pure mind fuck. It was glorious and horrifying, and a little bit confusing, which is not surprising because after all, crazy murdercidal AI. (I was particularly freaked out by Allura getting manipulated by Fake AI Dad.) The Shiro and Sendak scenes had me going "whelp, someone should not have been within a hundred feet of the evil space bat cat." Shiro's immediate MURDER reflex really illustrates how very horrible his ptsd is, and how much his brain must have been messed with during captivity.

 

They are the cutest kismesis. Their kismesis is based on Keith being completely oblivious to Lance's aspirations of rivalry.

Soon I will have enough voltron book marks for The REVENGE of Voltron Legendary Defender Recs. But that is not today.

 

Wasn't Original Flavor Voltron one of those '80s Murrcanized anime shows that was actually two or three anime series in a trench coat with its English dub dialogue pastede on yay?

 

Sort of but not exactly. The 80s kitty committee was translated from one series, but there was another season with different vehicles and stuff adapted from a different series, but it wasn't nearly as popular, and apart from also using the Voltron name, there was almost no effort to pretend they shared a continuity. Like even less so than Robotech, I think.

Except I guess they made a movie teaming up both groups, made partly from compiling/redubbing scenes from both series and partly from new animation, but I think that actually got shelved for years, just quietly getting released on video when no one was looking.

 

...I mean, are you willing to count a few K of pwp noncon I'm barfing out because the sheer misery of the scene wouldn't leave me alone? Because I swear I'll finish that horrible bullshit. Other than that, no >u< I feel like a lot could be written in this universe but nothing else has poked me especially hard.

 

Yes, it counts! Is it somewhere it can be read? And how miserable are we talking here? (I ask because I would like to read, but extreme misery makes me miserable.)

I did a short Nonbinary! Pidge story, and I'm working on a "it's not a redemption arc if you don't think you were wrong" eventual Sendak/Shiro story.

what if the variation between individual galra is because they assimilate worthy species? so they're all GALRA, they're all PURPLE, but they started out on different planets and there's lots of different 'types' now.

 

I like it. What if it's not whole species, just individuals who in someway distinguish themselves can be uplifted or something. Like Shae's got some purble relatives overseeing the mining efforts. Like Keith ain't half-Galra, he just turned purple cause Galra is basically whatever the fuck kinda species loaded up with quintessence. Maybe witch lady was Altean. Fun.

 

I saw a post about a Galra!Keith and a Altean!Lance au, where Keith was a galran soldier that decided to rebel/rescue Red Lion, but failed, and Red cryofroze him and locked down.

And for a Altean!Lance is Allura's lil brother AU it was an interesting idea (and the art was pretty cute) but my immediate thought was, "I think it would have been better if Galra!Keith were a hapless Galran soldier that Red decided to kidnap because she needed a pilot."

(Because I have a headcanon that this could be a thing that might possibly happen: Lions essentially kidnapping a potential paladin because they need a pilot.)

Poor sleepwalking soldier Galra!Keith, under the influence of Magic AI Shenanigans. Suddenly comes to surrounded by hostile non-Galrans.

 

BTW. I really, really hate Altean!Lance/Prince Lance, lil brother of Allura AUs. This would be because of the fic I mentioned where Lance was the heir because he was the first born male.

 

@jacktrash the purple hand is the main piece of evidence for the Galra!Keith headcanon/fantheory. That, and the Galra tech mysteriously working for him.

 

I still like my "Galra evolved with more than one sentient biped because bizarro convergent evolution on a planet with very isolated ecosystems." (As an explanation for the diversity of forms. ) The BioBorg assimilation sounds interesting though.
