i would personally like to have nepeta, the disciple, and sendak togather as a really interesting family unit.
A thing I have noticed about the VLD fan fic in general: There is an assumption in the narrative of the plots that Allura is successfully creating a network/alliances, but in the cartoon canon it's pretty clear that they're on the run, and barely know where to start or how to find a resistance to get in contact with. I just...really wish the fic writers addressed canon situation more/better. Because it's pretty clear the former thing is not happening/hasn't happened yet.
Space Opera Homestuck/VLD crossover. The war between Galra and Altea originally occurred due to initial contacts from the Alternian Empire with Altea and Galra. Galra did not trust Alternia motives, the Alteans welcomed them with open arms. Zarkon found out that the Alternian Empire was Up To No Good, but wasn't able to convince Alfor of the true situation. "Blah blah mildly condescending. His culture is more "primitive" and warlike, so he's seeing shit that isn't there. " Zarkon tries to nab Voltron/convince the other paladins, who don't really believe him either because he's possibly always been the odd man out despite also being the Leader. Zarkon says "fuck this!" and takes the Galran throne in an act of He Meant Well, and he starts annexing planets and attacks the Alternians. Altea is horrified by this, and attacks the Galrans. Zarkon is forced to destroy Altea/Alfor hides the lions. Zarkon is eventually able to push the Alternians back, though it takes ten thousand years and some very disturbing pitch flirtation from HIC. Then The Princess is Awake, and Shit is Not Yet Wrecked.
Who's got all the Allura-centric fic? I need to read about my buff alien princess. If anyone has recs, please, hook a girl up.
I am thinking an AU starting from the last two episodes, where the capture/rescue attempt goes differently and the Paladins get captured. Zarkon attempts to explain himself to Allura, Allura gives no shits. The argument gets heated and Haggar suggest that Allura be introduced to the Informer...who turns out to be the Psiioniic, kidnapped/stolen/rescued from HIC. "Informer" doesn't like the Galran Empire or Zarkon any more than he likes HIC, because, after all, a Follower of the Signless. He DOES confirm/back up aspects of Zarkon's story however, though he's also highly critical of the regime and thinks monarchies are in general, bullshit. (He's given them lots of useful information, but also keeps things back, like the entire "one planet" centralization problem, his co-religionists/fellow revolutionaries, and his efforts to Spread the Word to Galra, which Z and H are at least partially aware of/suspects.) We could go with either a) Allura is gradually convinced and begrudgingly allies with Zarkon or b) Allura and Paladins totally escape and take Informer with them. In either case, Allura also finds out that her people are still alive, though severely reduced in number: Zarkon dumped them out on the borders/front lines between Alternian and Galran space as a final "fuck you" to the Altean people. I kind of want @jacktrash to write it, if I were able to nominate someone else to write it so I could read it. (Mostly because the Space Navy AU is delightful space opera joy, and I think he would write good space opera. Also possibly @roach or @Vast Derp )
aww thank you for the vote of confidence :) if i were going to write voltron fic tho, it would be a fluffy thing from hunk's point of view, all about food and friendship. cuz i'm feeling fluffy lately.
instead of tracking and lock picking, you put skill points into baking and remembering birthdays this is my level 15 bartender, frank; his 'sympathetic listener' skill is maxed out
I think I would kludge the system from either Pokethulhu or Teenagers From Outer Space, but that's bc I'm a rules-light sort of person.
you go on quests like "get cousin dana a reliable ride to work" and "find out who keeps stealing carl's yogurt from the break room fridge WITHOUT starting workplace drama."
what the fuck, I really want to play that game now it's literally real life, why do i want to play it as a game. i think i understand sims players now.
Question, does the show ever become less overwhelmingly cheesy at any point? I'm not insulting it, it's just really not my thing, but I still want to participate in fandom stuff... Which means I have to watch the show to know what I'm talking about. So far all that's really encouraging me to continue is Pidge and their many screencap worthy resting pout faces.
naw it's pretty relentlessly cheesy. it's nostalgia-callback space opera with color coded heroes, the only way it could get cheesier would be if they wore miniskirts and had heart-themed accessories.
I don't feel there are many "cheesy" moments? I did have a visceral need to punch Lance in the face because of his idiotic flirting though. Some of the Coran bits are a little silly? I really fell hard for Shiro, and I adored Allura. (I am annoyed that fandom renders her as "Space Mom" Um. No. She is not the least bit "Maternal.")
Hee. We have different ideas of "cheesy" I think, because I didnt' see it as cheesy...nostalgic yes, cheesy not much.
