Maybe I'm the only one who likes figuring out what a character's potential moral alignment would be in Dungeons and Dragons terms, but given how much people seem to enjoy messing around with fictional categorization systems, I think I'm probably not. Obviously, alignment is subjective and variable, and the whole chaotic/neutral/lawful-good/neutral/evil structure won't necessarily cover a more complex personality, but it's still fun to think about.
I think one of my favorite explanations of alignment and story arcs: Dumbledore is a Lawful Evil character trying to fill in the roll of the leader and head support of a Chaotic Good organization.
I mostly just get annoyed when people get them really wrong. e.g. I once saw someone in Darker Than Black fandom talking about Hei's various personas having different alignments and ~conflict~ between them, and had Li as LG and the Black Reaper as CE. Which was almost as annoying as when people think they're split personalities.
alignment charts are really fun! for me though i think seeing those big charts of alignment/mtbi stuff says a lot more about the person making the chart than the characters in the chart, but that's interesting too (i tend to make my faves similar to me, and even though i think it's accurate personally, i also know i'm biased because i emphasize traits i see in myself)
Quite. I think they were a teenager, which might explain some of it. (If you've gotta apply alignments to Hei's personas, Li is true neutral because he's totally average, and BK-201 is neutral evil- cares about nothing but himself and generally just hurts the people he's told to hurt because that's in his best interest. Hei himself is a rather murky true neutral.) I got mad the other day when I saw a joke alignment chart of things including the word "fox" that had Fox News as Chaotic Evil. Excuse you, Fox News is textbook Lawful Evil. :::PPP
