Undel really has gotten lazy in her art in a lot of ways, like. I can understand that she needs to keep the available breeds simple and can't make complex artwork like she used to for prints. But. There's that and there's "lol we haven't released a new breed since nocturnes even though we were supposedly aiming for two a year." Gene releases are... Well, some of them are great! I love Butterfly and Skink. But then there's "glorified photoshop filter: the gene" and, TBH, Runes, because there's been so many suggestions for a runes gene that it's easy to not-quite-copy a suggestion and no one will ever be able to say anything about it. I haven't been playing FR because the lack of new shit to do has made it incredibly boring for me. Coliseum never interested me. Apparel is a thing I only care about for a handful of dragons. Genes and accents are where my heart lies but they're often too expensive for a casual playstyle. #and I say this as someone who owns all three of her drawing books and loved her pre FR stuff #I would do horrible things to have her produce chapstick again I've never been able to find another pear flavored one

Like I said before, Undel is lazy because she has the freedom to now. FR is cash cow, and the fact there are actually artists BESIDES Undel (the person who made the smoke gene escapes me) who are doing genes is kind of like "well ok' I'm in the same boat as @Starcrossedsky in that the site brings me no joy and coli was a horrible grind (I hate grinding and repetitive tasks and can never keep focus) I traded my cranial hornhelm for a grem2. Best trade ever, I didn't have to spend $500+ real dollars for something I wanted and instead bought it for fake dragon yiffing currency (if that trade had fallen thru I would have sold it on the black market for its illegal worth of $400 or so, and being worth $700+ in gems rn that's not the worst possible turnaround)
I think what makes me a salty miner is the sites still in closed beta. We've been at this for years, now. The economy has crashed long ago and it's not fun. anyone determined enough could probably make the money to buy a light sprite within a couple months-half a year, casually flipping treasure for gems and whatnot. If you're into coli it'll take even less time. Just Augh get out of closed beta already
oh I'm sure if I ever want to go back, the doubles I have sitting around will by worth BANK. like even if I'm just getting rid of my extra sprites. I have one fire sprite extra, two arcane, and 3+ from plague on. I mean it's not the rich that is having an extra light spirte but it's. bank.
Oh, I meant IRL money. I was half tempted to sell my hornhelm if I ended up not getting my trade cuz uh. Well I pretty much quit? I'm gonna log in and get the goblins because they're a cute aesthetic but I doubt there'll be anything for me in the future. (fun fact, boneyard tatters sell for $30 on the black market, 4k gems less than if u bought it legitimately)
And like, if they put out new content besides genes/apparel/familiars I wouldn't be so salty? But all we get is once a year there's a new arcade game. Shit. If I wanted that Neopets is There. That's not content. The beastclans update was content! That was great! I mean yeah it was just a little lore update (incidentally on the lore front: deity pages when again?) but it came with those puzzle fragments and actually felt like a change in the game that made it interesting. I even feel okay about the occasional new coliseum venue as content. But people who play games for story/lore/anything but the grind there's just... Nothing. Unless you're RPing on the forums, I guess, and I'm too long a member of GaiaOnline to want to RP in random forums with a community I don't have some knowledge of. (Kintsugi is literally the only forum I will RP on because our balance of adults+mature teens to dumb kids is so much higher than anywhere else.) #the nai and carni salt show
Actually I haven't heard of a new game in a while. Tidal trouble and the bejeweled-like game were already in progress when the thrage drama happened in year 1. And even the bejeweled game is janky as fuck (and faerie bubbles never appealed to me on neopets so it won't appeal on FR. I LOVE the ability to have user submitted puzzles, though. A+ job on that one) That screencap of the capes was long before coatls were introduced. That was, what, year 2? 1 and a half? I'm dragon old and have poor timeline memory. We got nocs because the holidays switched around (so flight Dom wasn't during Christmas/Hanuka/Kwanza/etc) and it left something open, I feel like they half assed that one and came up with a reason for nocs on the fly (it's innovative to have nocs appear during winter solstice only I'll give them that) Idk I'm just old as balls on that site and it promised a lot for me which it either never delivered or it delivered so late I had already lost interest. 8( and that's an absolute shame
oh lord. a well coded and functional website. And yeah. Like. Ghost and points? predate me, and I'm going on three years now. They're the most frequently cited example for a reason, at least among people who remember they exist. By the same token, I feel like there was a lot more "what are the staff doing" transparency back then, with the livestreams and such. You got the idea that they were constantly working on things rather than the currently feeling of peddling around on their asses. These days? Hell, they don't even do the words on the wind with any regularity anymore, it used to be every two months, now it's like... every four? or some shit? Might even be every six. What's especially galling about that is that there's less content in them now and most of what's there could easily be written by a moderator. (Remember when registration windows were exciting? I dooooooo.)

paws!! and yep -- the eyes have changed. they're less sunken in the feet change is an unexpected direction though. gaining fins and paws, losing tail fluff. hmm
This...feels fairly poorly drawn now omg.... They're drawing over the image by replacing it, leading me to assuming they just made this new thing up on the spot, and instead of doing the smart thing and redrawing the lineart (like drawing over the old image on a new layer), theyre just "art thieving" and scribbling out stuff (its most noticeable on the pearl where his tail used to curve) I'm both excited to see where this goes and incredibly disappointed at how theyre yet again v lazy
yeaaah...... the paws look like of pasted on -- they don't really look like they belong on him, and the tail is rather ugly now imo but hopefully they'll continue to change it. the paws are confusing. paws say mammal, but rest of baldwin says reptile or something. fur says mammal. removing tail fluff doesn't make sense.
