We're finally getting an in to how fucked up the situation in Mewni is on the ground level! The monsters were willing to go as far as torture, but they were doing it because they were hungry. People were starving. Buff Frog isn't the only person who needs food, so does everyone else. It really reinforces the idea that the 'evil' they are is more the lack of morals people need to develop to survive in really harsh environments, where you'll protect your in-group but willing to go really far with out-groups because resources are so limited. I wouldn't be surprised if mewmans encouraged it, to keep the monster reputation bad and keep them occupied fighting each other and hurting mewmans who can then be like 'monsters are evil.'

That said, I'm not surprised at King River here. I always expected this sort of reveal for River and Moon, where they're likable and nuanced characters but also huge bigots in positions of power. They're pleasant to Marco because Marco reads as a person to them. But even though River felt bad the fire spread and wasn't just a warning shot, he didn't try to save the monsters. And he could have! He's very fast and strong!

Star would have tried to save them. River wouldn't.

Munipendence Day was one of my favorite episodes tho so glad we're talking about this whole 'entire species a lower class that's ok to murder' thing

Also, Mina Loveberry? Favorite shit I've seen in a long time. Holy hell. I'm such a deranged, adamant Moony and seeing that teardown was hilarious.

 

Well it's not like Usagi is very on the ball, either.

Yeah I did not expect the show to go this direction from the first half of season 1, but I am not complaining in the least.

 

Ha ha ha ha the best thing about Star Vs is that it's completely comfortable with being absolutely weird and silly (I steal hair!! You can make anything from hair!!) and it's also completely comfortable giving you the real talk ('I have to feed my kids but social class is keeping me from doing that in a legitimate way so I must turn to theft,' every time Tom shows up and BPD fucks shit up)(I was being a little flippant with that label but I think a good headcanon lies in there). Neither seems out of place when you look back, it's just a good messy mishmash of most light-hearted silly but heartfelt teenage antics.

It's just good times. Good times and sometimes that alligator, god, what the hell's his problem, he just hasn't shown up since the season finale, why did he want the wand broken, why did he just leave after it was, WHAT IS HE PLANNING

I'm interested in that myself. He can't be dead, right? Like the logical assumption is that he is, but he was NOT surprised when everything went boom. If his plan wasn't to die, then this is just part of his plan. He might not even be down an arm, we've seen him regenerate stuff before, right?
