I. Dislike the Lapis and Peridot situation after the end of Barn Mates. So pretty much all the fanart and comics and this new short that involve it are pretty annoying to me. For the record, I like Lapis and Peridot a lot, and I don't have any problems with anyone shipping them together, but I personally really dislike the stuff surrounding Lapidot.
It didn't really seem like there was Lapidot in that short to me. They just... interacted a little? Not even that much.
Look, I'd rather not talk about it because I don't want to get into ranting, feel upset, and possibly make other people feel hurt because I don't like their ship. If you want to know my problem with it, go read my posts from around when Barn Mates and Beta came out, that should about cover it. eta: essentially, the main conflict of Barn Mates was never resolved, but the later episodes and this new short ACT like it was, so it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. To me it's like if Cry For Help happened, then we messed around with the Cool Kids and boardwalk sellers for ten episodes, and the next time we see anything where Garnet and Pearl are onscreen at the same time they are 100% cool with each other and trusting and what consequences? So.

Ahhhhh! All those shorts were precious and I love them! Angry Lunch Enemies is the best name for the homeworld gems. The Lapis and Peridot short was pretty great, I love how totally certain Lapis was that Steven was trapped in Peridot's tablet. This isn't @ anyone, but I kind of love how most of Peridot and Lapis' relationship happened offscreen. We were intensely focused on Peridot for so long, but now she and lapis are off doing their own thing and bonding over camp pining hearts and learning about each other through art projects. They have become like Steven's cool 'aunts'. There's still a connection, and they love him, but he's not involved in their daily lives. Honestly, it reminds me of my relationship with my nephew and niece, in an idealized cartoon way. We have windows into each other's lives maybe once year if I'm lucky, but they are never going to know 1/20th of what I get up to every day.
The bit about using music as a coping mechanism hit me in The Feelings. As to the entire Lapidot thing... yeah, I felt that way about Davekat for a while, so I found some fanfictions that covered the process of them getting to know each other. It didn't completely quell the annoyance, but it did make the feeling go from "shoehorned bullshit" to "tenuously plausible fringe interpretation that somehow got canonized". CN's been running themed saturday afternoon marathons (last week was "crystal chaos," gem drama and backstory-- giant woman, sardonyx, etc-- and today's is "peridot's redemption") I don't know why but I kind of don't want to question

Spoiler: just in case On rewatching It Could've Been Great, it's mentioned that the Cluster was inserted through the Beta Kindergarten in (what looks like) the southwestern US. That's... interesting to me. Why there? Because it was already primed for seeding with gems, even if it mostly spat out "defective" gems? Because it spawned Jasper, the ideal warrior? Because the injectors were already there? (In that case, why not Alpha? If the minerals drained from Alpha are necessary for gem and cluster growth, why not make a third insertion point instead of using half-farmed Beta?) ...jesus. What if there were other late bloomers incubating in the Beta Kindergarten, like Amethyst in the Alpha? What happened to them? For that matter, when was the cluster inserted with comparison to the corruption-nuking?
