God help me I've got concrete headcanons about the day to day relationship between Shane and Caithe the half-dryad now. I'm in too deep. Like on the days where depression is hitting him hard she'll do the bare minimum of farm work and then cuddle up with him on whatever surface he's flopped on, and her hair will bloom with camomile flowers. She dries them later and makes him tea. On his good days she'll show him how to do things around the farm, because he's interested and wants to help, and she knows giving him ways to feel useful helps him out. She lets him bring his chicken inside the house when it rains. The greenhouse has a row of pepper plants at all times, and she bought a barn and got cows for the sole purpose of making cheese so she could make him pepper poppers. He adores her, and really can't understand why in a town with guys like Elliot and Alex, she fell in love with him. Caithe is also nonverbal most of the time, and I hc Shane's been studying sign language so he can understand her better. help me
Would anyone else be interested in an altered hats file? I'm mostly taking stuff from two other hat mods and putting it in different places (so stuff that covers hair gets replace with stuff that covers hair, elsewise you get hair sticking out of hats where it shouldn't stick out), but I'm also making a few of my own - I've made a slouchy beanie already, but I'm also going to try to make a hood, a headscarf/hijab, and a tricorn.
In too deep I love my farmer. Silly sketchy speedpaint. Also I would love altered hats. Atm she rocks a tiara, but ideally I'd stick her in a flower crown. Don't know how feasible that is x3
Now that my combat skill is 9, I'm seeing lava bats and shadow brutes down on Valor Farm. Spoiler: My reaction, in gif form.
One of the hat files I'm grabbing stuff out of has a nice flower crown! I'm replacing one of the huge floppy bows with it because I hate huge floppy bows. (The little red bow is fine.)
hey shane I know you literally just last night were [REDACTED] but HEY BB WANNA DANCE Edit: he's shorter than all the other boys.... MY SMALL BOYFRIEND <3 <3 <3
He is a smol and kinda pudgy babe and I love him. He just rescued my ass from the mines and my heart broke a bit ;n;
I've made the slouchy beanie as I mentioned, but I could also make a variation on the cute strawberry hat I've pulled from the file. It's kind of an earflap beanie. And/or I could chop the bill off of the Good Ol' Cap and make it a really basic sort of skullcap beanie.
My favorite mod - Diverse Stardew Valley - has apparently been abandoned before 1.1, and I am very sad. :C Still probably going to try and get back into the game, but less excited about it. I don't suppose anybody knows of a similar mod/mods?
Fishing tips from someone who actually likes the minigame: There's no substitute for technique; you will need to practice till you have the hang of it. It does get easier, however. Increased skill means a bigger fishing bar, which means more margin for error. This means that +fishing buff foods are absolutely worth it if you're having trouble. Willy sells Trout Soup from the very beginning, I think. Bait is purely a time-saver; I'm pretty sure it doesn't make the catch any easier when you do get a bite. Wild Bait is not enough of an improvement to be worth it. As soon as you can, buy the Iridium Rod. The ability to use tackle will change your life. Under no circumstances bother with the Barbed Hook (any technique you've developed will suddenly work against you; I could barely catch a friggin' sardine with that thing) or the Lead Bobber (if you're bouncing on the bottom, practice arresting your momentum before you hit). The Cork Bobber is fine if you happen to find yourself with one, or with more money than you need, but it's not worth the hardwood to craft. Do use the TRAP BOBBER. It's easy to craft- by the time you have access to tackle, both Sap and Copper Bars should abound for you. It slows the escape rate while they're off your bar, and is a lifesaver on difficult fish.
Trap bobber and the treasure one are the only ones worth piss and spittle. And the treasure only really cause it's fun to juggle the fish and the treasure chest.
No shame in using a fishing mod if you just can't get the hang of the minigame, though. I absolutely had to use a mod for the majority of my first playthrough, and when I took it out it turned out that playing it modded made the game's learning curve shallow enough I could deal with it.
... Thhhhbpppt. The headscarf is a wash, I'm afraid, and I have to figure out a couple more hats to replace two that don't look nearly as good as I thought they would. However, the slouchy beanie and tricorne I drew from scratch look fantastic! (I'm fucking shocked, tbh. The tricorne was a bitch and a half to get right.)
Oh, yeah, nobody's gonna think less of anyone for making a fishing minigame less frustrating. I mean, the kinda people who think the only proper way to game is on the hardest difficulty setting with one hand tied behind your back and a shock collar that goes off whenever it senses joy round your neck ain't gonna touch an anime farming sim with a ten foot pole.
Some people do get really elitist about it, though! The reddit for the game is generally a pretty nice place, but man were there a lot of "Ugh, it isn't that hard, just practice more or skip fishing, geez"-type responses to people having trouble with the fishing minigame in the first weeks the game came out...
I'm fucking terrible at fishing, partially because clicking on a Mac trackpad is weird but mostly because my reflexes are shit. I tried a couple times and then gave up until I unlocked the sewer, which was like... Year 2 sometime? I have been diligently attempting to learn in the sewer (because you exclusively catch carp, the easiest fish in the game, and a Legendary Fish there, and the Legendary Fish escapes really fast), but I'm still Level 0, I'm pretty sure. :/ I have all the Community Center bundles except the fucking fish ones, although via dutiful patronage of the Traveling Cart and Krobus I have filled some bundles with bought fish. but yeah, I suck at that, and I don't know how to use a fishing mod on a Mac.
