I'm currently thinking of Pidge as a "nonbinary girl," which maybe sounds like a contradiction, but I know one or two people who identify that way and thinking about Pidge kind of helps me grok that.

 

I headcanon "Pidge" as a childhood nickname that turned out useful when she was struggling to hear/respond to to fake name she chose when enlisting. It's gender-neutral, and it would be easier to say "hey, my folks call me Pidge, you can too" then remember that she's supposed to be Peter or w/e.

 

in the '80s canon "pidge" was apparently some kind of nickname for darrell

i really don't expect the nickname to make much sense

i saw that and i was like aww baby needs some powder for that diaper rash.

i'm also bwuh? on them being hung up on what genitals she has in particular. like. she said she's a girl who disguised herself as a boy. this could be "i'm a trans girl who disguised myself as a cis boy" or this could be "i'm a cis girl who disguised myself as a trans/younger boy" there are two options here. and the latter, given the voice actor, seems a whole heck of a lot more likely to me, but i'm also not the headcanon police and i think the transgirl pidge headcanon would be interesting if written in the right hands. i doubt i'll see it done well, but there you have it.

but mostly "why do you care about the genitals of this fictional character so damn much" like honestly.

i don't particularly care if pidge is cis or trans or whatever. i just like seeing different headcanons because a lot of them are interesting. i just wish people could discuss them without. well. //gestures at tumblr

 

The important discourse about the trans girl Pidge headcanon: if Coran knew she was a girl, does he assume that humans are set up like hyenas?

(I love trans girl Pidge a lot and it's the headcanon I write more, when it comes up, but this question preys on me.)

 

Why should Altean squishyparts be anything like human ones? Maybe Coran thinks they're all girls. Or maybe Alteans have gender-without-sex like homestuck trolls and Coran was like "oh, the fiercest one is obviously the female."

 

okay but now i want princess allura with the type of female genitals described in one particularly memorable homestuck fic, which was basically "see that mouth? with all its teeth? that, but vertically from your taint to your belly button. now sex"

 

I mean, frankly I'm just waiting for all the Homestucks getting into Voltron to come up with inventive new genitalia for Alteans and Galrans.
