Bill Cipher. The evil Illuminati triangle. He caused Weirdmageddon, and somehow, Weirdmageddon caused this place, according to Ford. Dunno how that works but yeah...

But... why not a demon?

 

What a rather strange name for a Demon or a Spirit. Where I hail from they are named after the good and bad aspects of man.

 

"I... think I've seen one that fits that definition, yes." [She peeks out of her fort, wondering what will happen if she tries to take the books out of the room. More shenanigans, probably.]

"Bill: usually-yellow entity, dedicant of chaos, good grasp of dreamspace powers. Loud. Aggressive towards Stanford-plus, something about the timeline they live in?" [Another shrug, marginally more visible this time.]
"Dying here is... temporary, and also technically avoidable if one is comfortable manipulating dreamspace."

"What kind of demon?"

"'Demon' within most personally-familiar cosmology: one forged by the opponent-balance of the Creator, equal in power to the Shades but not one of them. No coherent frame, and Bill favors one. He... seems more of one who serves that power than an embodiment of it, anyway."

 

So, Ford's definition of "demon" is an unusual one?

 

i dunno. hot one that kills people?

Interesting. Reminds me of a particular mage I am familiar with.

I wouldn't say unusual, but I am not aware of exactly what it is!

"...okay?" [She is 100% taking this to mean "violent embodiment of flame," because surely even aliens know physical attractiveness is relative and subjective?]

 

Demons are beings of great dark power capable of opposing even the Gods!

Ford takes a deep breath.

Then he notices that Mara's back. "You behave yourself, or I'll sutra you right out of here again," he says firmly.

He sighs. "Demon is a word that means a lot of different things to different people. Bill fits most of the operant definitions I'm aware of, as does Mara."
