Spoiler: For real That was really alarmingly parallel! Lapis even said "just let me do this for you!" Almost verbatim! I am enjoying the recent theme of it is Not Great to sacrifice yourself for others when it's harmful to you and they don't want you to.
Oh wow, that was intense! And not as awful as I was expecting, actually! Spoiler: spoilers maybe I dunno if Jasper is all in Malachite colors. It might just be the lighting. Lapis looked a bit more green than usual. And Jasper has looked not-orange before, when she first appeared. Still, it's a cool thought.
Yeah, considering that all we saw of Jasper in this episode was Spoiler her having pretty obviously lost it from being stuck in the fusion calling her an abuser from that feels weird. Can we talk about how friggin creep this episode was though? Spoiler especially the first dream, with eyeless lapis leaking water everywhere
Spoiler: Oh also I really like the way it looks when Lapis bursts out f the water. It just looks really great. Though, oddly, her dress is torn up after that, and it was fine before. It must have been quite some effort to drag Jasper back
Spoiler By the point they were obviously struggling for control, they were both in Malachite colors, and Lapis' final words of the episode were "I'm Malachite now." It's not a conversation when both are looking to hold the other down.
Spoiler: Actually That line, "I'm Malachite now" reminds me of what Garnet said - when you're fused, you forget you were ever alone, and your old names might as well be names for your left arm and your right arm. There's no way those two are coming out of this unscarred.
Agreed- she was sort of a bully pulling lapis around in like 2 scenes and she tried to manipulate lapis into fusing with her- but lapis wasn't manipulated, she had her own plan to drag Jasper into the ocean. In my experience a LOT of people of people you call Jasper an abuser are also the people that lapis is a precious cinnamon roll who was manipulated into fusing and who absolutely didn't try to drown Steven and Connie or steal the entire ocean. I'm not sure how happy I am about that overlap, seeing as I love all the characters X'D and people who hate Jasper tend to be more... Hostile about it? Like, I sort of feel like maybe they restrain themselves to some extent when bashing Pearl because she's one of the main characters, but Jasper is a villain, so I think they might feel like they can be meaner about her, since people are 'supposed' to dislike her.

Jasper is cruel, but we havn't seen enough of her behavior to say that she is an abuser. We just don't know enough about her. Spoiler plus is is very clear that the fandom's "precious cinnamon roll" and "victim" Lapis is the one in control and is really fucking with Jasper. Jasper is a jerk but Lapis is the one with power in that relationship and is controlling Jasper with it. But nobody considers Lapis an abuser (even out of self defense) because that ruins their narrative of Lapis being a poor helpless victim who did no wrong and Jasper being the most evil and abusive gem in the universe. Even if she is doing it for a good cause abuse is abuse and an abuser is an abuser they are both equally capable of being abusive to each other.
Spoiler: Hm Hm, I don't see how Lapis is abusing or controlling Jasper - she's not manipulating Jasper, she's holding her down at the bottom of the ocean to keep everyone else safe. Because Jasper is a very real threat! It kind of goes back to a discussion on a different chunk of the forums, where people were discussing the difference between an abusive relationship and a toxic one.
Spoiler: Chille Tid: OH GOD I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS Some more serious than others! 1) Am I supposed to know what "Chille Tid" means/why Garnet said it in Steven's first dream? I keep parsing it as "Chill Tide" and this was the most un-chill tide. 2) Why do the Gems need sleep... why are they feeling tired... why. What. I can't tell if this is a lampshaded plot hole or some plot stuff that's going to be relevant later. 3) Is it possible that Amethyst was not sleeping but thought she was? I mean, "lying down with your eyes closed and snoring for several hours" seems like something Amethyst wouldn't be opposed to. XD 4) What the hell is going on with Steven's psychic dream communication with Lapis?! Is it a healing spit thing? Is it a mirrors/water thing? 5) This isn't a question, it's the answer to a question. The answer is "Crap like accusing a character with minor appearances and no backstory of being an abuser on the basis of "big mean antagonist" whILE SHE'S BEING HELD PRISONER". The question is "why do I not check fandom tags on tumblr". I was going to talk about my opinions on Jasper more, but, there's other questions I have that maybe have answers. 6) Also not a question: PEARL HONEY YOU JUST KEEP OUT-GAYING YOURSELF. I AM IMPRESSED.
Chille Tid means chilling time in Norwegian. Also I think that the Gems don't strictly speaking need sleep, but they do need rest periods. Working continuously for long periods of time tends to be stressful on the brain, so downtime is necessary!
I dunno that they were tired how Steven is tired, more like emotionally fatigued and in need of some time to be chill and just let themselves recharge. Sleep might not be necessary for Gems, but they're obviously freaking out/have been at it for a while, and every thinking, feeling being has limits, yunno?
@KarrinBlue Spoiler: New ep spoilers I don't know about purposely manipulating her, but it was pretty obvious that being forced to stay a fusion was really fucking up Jasper. And yes Lapis is keeping her there for good reasons, but Jasper probably thinks her own actions are the right ones, especially since, for the most part, she was probably just following orders- everyone is a protagonist in their own mind.
Spoiler: gems and sleep I remember in the Lion episode Amethyst naps with Pearl. That's when it's revealed that gems don't "need" to sleep, but she does because it feels nice. All of the gems need rest and look/feel tired because they are under a lot of stress. They may not physically need sleep like Steven, but they ll needed a little time to relax, feel nice, and think about something other than Malachite. Also I thought "Chille Tid" was just him misrembering/scrambled up when Amethyst said "Chill it, dude" in... I think it was cat fingers? Same way of saying it nd everything.
Spoiler: spoilers to be safe i guess Is there some other significance to the phrase "chille tid"? I get how it's related to the episode, like with down time/chilling, but why Norwegian? @liminal 's explanation isn't... It doesn't seem "wrong" but it also still seems kind of weak? Something tells me their ought to be a stronger.... THEY'RE BY NORWAY!!! Garnet's future vision went into Steven's dream somehow?? Re: sleep, I remembered the stuff about being able to sleep, I just find it a little hard to believe they've been in war(s) and this is them at their most exhausted? Ahh, maybe they just passed out Garnet style then, and don't have practice falling asleep like Steven...
Haha, @Alska, you were not kidding about the tags. They are a steaming hellpit of people calling for character lynchings and, worse, violence towards people who like whichever character makes them froth the most. And I'm still seeing Pearl posts in the Jasper tag!
