Thanks...but do you really think that holds true for all the colours? I can't help thinking that's a short list of ingredients to get all those colours.

Generally the ingredients listed as "may contain" is all the stuff that's in some varieties of a product but not others.

I would recommend seeking out the book "What is Goth?" by Voltaire, mentioned upthread. Fun, funny, informative, talks a bit about fashion and lifestyle and stuff.

On YouTube, look for It's Black Friday, linked upthread (I lack the spoons to remind here, sorry). Her video of tips for "babybats" could be very handy, if somebody would care to link it.

Also on YouTube, if you search for "goth music" some of the playlist that come up should include some "classic goth" and "gothic and 80s underground," which will give you some good background music to get a taste of what shaped and influenced the early goth culture. Or you can watch the videos while drinking shitty wine out of a black goblet you bought from the Halloween display at your local supermarket for an authentic experience ^_^

Here it is! She seems like a real sweetie.
Man, I need more jewelry and black t-shirts. And I'm starting to wonder if it's even possible to make the goth thing work without dyeing my hair a dark color.

Goths come in every kind of hair color! In fact, I really love blonde goths and pastel goths. Such a cool look.

Yes, modern Goth is quite varied in its styles of dress. And styles of music. You have the old school very obviously post-punk British Goth and American Death Rock. There's 80s/early 90s Goth Rock (The Sisters of Mercy etc). There's the etherial goth sound. And honestly once you get into the industrial-influenced parts I really cannot keep all the supposed subgenres in my head. EBM, Electro, Darkwave/synthpop. VNV Nation call themselves 'Future Pop' and so do some of the bands that really really want to be VNV Nation. There's some stuff going in a more metal direction. Some stuff going in an Americana or even Country direction. There's some gothic rap (not very good that I've ever heard, but it exists).

I love the variety these days.

Wait: VNV nation, you mean, with the orchestra album? Because I fucking love the orchestra album. I hope my neighbors fucking love it too because I get way too carried away when listening to it and if they don't, I'm in for a surprise the next condominium meeting.

I love the Southern Goth and the folksy sound sound too, I think it's very... Soothing?

One of my professors back in advertising is such a hardcore goth I think two or three of her masters/Ph.D. Stuffs were about some sort of goth "fandom" studies. I know she did a couple of studies about it in England and, I think, Germany. She introduced me to some synthpop which I found really interesting, but not exactly my stuff because for me a lot of syntethizers = Hell Migraine Fun Ride unless the planets are aligned just right.

Gothic charm school was a great resource for me when I was a wee baby bat.

I've kind of moved away from goth in my fashion, mostly out of necessity, but I'm still a little goth/punk hybrid in my heart :p

@emythos Me too! I do most of my clothes-shopping around Halloween, haha. It's basically the only time shopping isn't super stressful for me.

In the men's section I can find comfy flannel lounge/pajama pants with a skull motif most years. Sometimes spiderwebs or something. (I refer to them as my spookypants.)

My current spookypants are cotton or something instead of flannel, so they're not as comfy or warm; they also use a drawstring instead of an elastic waist, so they're a little less convenient. But they're quite durable, and are in fact the longest lasting pajama pants I've ever had.

Also my bat curtains, I'm rather proud of them.
