    Well! Let's not, no.

And yet, the elves do seem to have a great deal more ancient history. Perhaps we came first, and they're all part-rabbit after all.

Oh yes then, people would try and use your blood, in a myriad of cruel ways. Though an interesting ability!

That's incredible! Believe me, I have no intention of testing it, but do you keep yourself from battlefields to keep the risk away? Otherwise, I can see a number of ways for that to happen.
Cosmic forces which affect the metaphysical plane on a level that is perceptible and able to be manipulated. An elluvian, for instance, is an object that draws upon the power of the Fade to access a plane removed-but-not from our own known as the Crossroads, folding the vast arrays of land between locations down so that it is simply a matter of stepping from one location to another. I imagine it is similar to a spacebridge in this.

The rift to which Dorian was referencing was called the Breach, and it was a tear in the Veil. I'm trying to summarize, this is typically a subject of several years of lecture because the matter of the Fade and the Veil is so vital to mages. The Veil is a layer of metaphysical null, which keeps the Fade and the cosmic forces held within separated from the physical plane. We hadn't been able to study it so intently before it was ruptured, but now we understand how mages push through and reach into the Fade, pulling the power within to their bidding. The Fade is magic, just as an inferno is fire. It simply is what it is made of.

Now there are some interesting theories about resonances that Tevinter is coming up with, which might be the answer to the why of mages, not just the how, but that is what magic is. Observable effects of a force that can be repeated if needed.
Wouldn't that just be the best sort of irony? Or part nug. I'd be just awful to be around for week if we ever found out that humans were related to nugs.

Just one of the unique features of my excessively inbred family.

By the same rules, everyone else can decide to be immune to it. And you can't take anything from here. It memories.

It says a lot about you and I, that you only see delight in having such power, yet I hate having it and fear the consequences.

Jame shakes her head. "Rather the opposite, I'm afraid. I am a military officer. The career choices for me were soldiering or the cloistered, stifling life of a lady. My troops, alas, would consider it an honor to be so bound. I find the idea terrifying."

I, ah. I meant they might be related to us. I apologize for using the word -- I was being sarcastic.

... Now, I won't deny that I would find it absolutely hilarious if humans were related to nugs. I spent a week in Orzammar hunting the damn things down for my... friend, and you get tired of pulling them out of holes after the first three or four.

    (points to her ears)

Are there humans who look like me where you're from? That would be odd.

[He snorts, then shakes his head.] I'd get tired after the first. I just don't understand the appeal.
I'm not human. Neither is Berit. We're elves.
