I'm super fucking psyched about Halloween suddenly?? I have assembled an excellent vampire costume, including theatrical-level fangs, red contacts, a wing-collared pleated-front tuxedo shirt, a black scarf-repurposed-as-cravat, a dark red patterned vest, a lovely old wool dressage coat that was my great-grandmother's (quite sharp—it's black and very fitted through the waist with wide square shoulders, it fits me perfectly despite having never been tailored, and it's at least 80 years old), a dried red rose for my buttonhole, white gloves, black breeches, fake black stockings in the form of leggings, these frankly stunning boots, and a promise of comprehensive makeup from a friend. :D I love costuming so much. also I get to wear this work of fashionable art to six classes, so my captive audience will be quite large. ;P

I plan to dress as Slackula, Dracula's underachieving brother. The costume is this t-shirt:

worn with black slacks, black shoes, and the cheapest black cape I could find at Walmart. I'm considering getting a name tag.

@Xitaqa couples cosplay ftw? (also I forgot to mention that I also have a really cheap black "velvet" cape to top off the look.)

We'll have to share pics so we can see how your style looks alongside my deliberately cheap and lazy look.

I'm jealous of all you guys with your costumes and plans and stuff :P

I love Halloween, but my parents were actual, un-ironic, non-troll members of the "Halloween Is A Satanic Holiday" camp and so I never celebrated and now i'm old wat do
Actually that's not completely true. I went Trick-or-Treating the year I was 12, and I kept getting the stink eye from people. At the time, I thought it was because I looked too old, but in retrospect, it was probably because when they gave me candy, I tried to give them Chick tracts.

Or they might have been concerned about my dad, who looks like an angrier version of Tommy Lee Jones, because while I walked up to the house like a normal person, he'd lurk at the end of the driveway like a serial killer and people probably thought he was using me as a ruse so he could get inside their houses and turn them into lampshades for egging our house and smashing our pumpkins every year. Or something.

Same tbh. As i got older it only ever got worse, until we were at the point we didnt much celebrate any thing but christmas and thanksgiving, and we almost stopped doing christmas too but i begged them not to while saying "we can make it about what its really about" which was me just talking out of my ass so i could keep giving and getting gifts + decorate like crazy

@esotericPrognosticator your costume sounds amazing, and i would love to see photographic evidence

in fact i think everyone should post pictures of them all dolled up in their halloween costumes on the 31st so we can pretend like we're having one giant halloween party through the magic of the ~internet~

also i still haven't narrowed down my choices, but i'm leaning towards just doing the faun again. i can't decide!! too many costumes!!! ahh!!! halloween!!!!!

DIDN'T YOU KNOW THAT TRAP DOORS LEAD TO SATAN. WE MUST WARN PEOPLE OF THE DANGERS OF TRAP DOORS.

No but like there were 3 or 4 halloween themed ones (I think??) and every year, me and my mom would make these little baggies that had tracts and a couple pieces of candy in them, and that's what we gave to trick or treaters. I had no idea how bizzare that was until I went trick or treating and realized that most people just let kids grab a handful and move on with their life. Good times!

I always loved reading chick tracts when i was younger and firmly believe they were a big part in cultivating my love for surrealism and absurdist humour today. Most of them read like a really aggressive shitpost and the art doesnt help

Also this reminds me of when my college organized a halloween food drive where we went door to door asking for any spare cans of food people could donate to the food bank instead of candy. it was very fun and most people were happy to help or at least give well wishes. Thats probably the only time i did something that could loosely qualify as trick or treating lol.

It really interests me how trick or treating has evolved as time goes by, nowadays around here the police station and local hospitals will check candy for poison and razorblades, and a lot if neighborhoods organize trunk trick or treating for the youngest kids. They line up their cars with the trunks open and a let them walk by and fill a bag so 4-5 year olds arent wandering around in the dark.

Oh yeah, and churches with their Fall Festivals. I volunteered to run games for a lot if those when i was younger. I didnt really get the point, it was essentially a massive halloween party every year with cotton candy stands and bounce houses and fair prize booths* only it wasnt called halloween so somehow it was okay???

Edit: *only you get candy instead of, like, stuffed animals
