Haha. Being an art lover and an adventurer has its downsides. You have to deface so many ominous statues.

@swirlingflight If I've understood correctly that Sarnai intends to bring it with her: the painting is too big to fit in a backpack as-is. You'll have to work out another method of carrying it around.

5e hasn't got a "Use Rope," it'd just be a straight Dexterity check. I know Alabaster has rope because an OSR player would no sooner walk into a dungeon nude and blindfolded than forget to bring rope. For those of you who went with the various adventurer's packs, the ones that include rope are the burglar's, the dungeoneer's, and the explorer's.

...I'm afraid to ask why. :psyduck:

rope harness for the painting's frame

    That makes sense.

I think it'd only count as shibari if Chanterelle were still in it.

Given that she was chained up while in the picture, would that be like... double bondage? Triple bondage?

I was thinking of tying the harness onto a person, and them being able to take the painting out as needed to keep it safe during combat, but I'm not sure how well that would work w our packs and such.

tbh i assume most adventurers dump their packs to the side of fights because some of these bags are big enough to add AC

It shouldn't be too difficult to carry it around, especially for your Str 20 gladiator. But Velcro hasn't been invented yet, so you get to pick either "securely attached" or "easy to remove quickly," not both.

EDIT: though I guess you could secure the painting in the harness and make straps like those on a backpack out of rope, so you could slip it off quickly but have no fear of losing it. That'll take longer to set up though.

hey guys, I have returned from my six-day stint of Internet abstinence! sorry I didn't give prior notice, but I had a paper that was kicking my ass and I quite literally banned myself from doing anything other than that, mandatory activities, my other schoolwork, and sleeping, so, uh. the paper's done and I'm back now? fair warning, though, this week and next week are designated Slam Your Students With Tests And Papers One Last Time Before Finals weeks, so I may disappear again. :/ but meantime, what can I do? I'll catch Lyriae up RP-wise, and the plan for the rope harness sounds good... can I and my Dex modifier help Sarnai with that somehow?

You can Aid her (grant her advantage on the roll by beating DC 10) or just do it yourself. Since Lyriae's got that +4, she might be better off doing it herself.

To be clear: this is about tying knots correctly without any threats nearby, so you're going to be able to succeed regardless. The Dex check is for how fast you do it.

Sarnai is gonna mutter a prayer that the painting doesn't work again while strapped to her, she might get stuck portal style falling in and out of both sides

Nobody except Swirl has posted in 2 weeks. Normally at this point I'd start sending out nagging PMs, but I think most of you are Americans like myself and thus probably too busy crying and/or drinking, so I'll hold off for another week in recognition that fantasy may be hard to sustain right now. Stay safe out there. The Maze and I will be here when you need an escape.

Meantime, I'm going to expedite things and roll Lyriae's DEX.

12+4 = 16. Pretty good. You finish rigging the harness in about 2 minutes.
