You don't NEED a knight, it just helps. Space is needed to light the Forge and breed the frog, Time is needed to keep everything on the alpha line and make sure nothing gets Doomed.
slides back into thread because guess who found their huge infodumps for their hogwarts AU? this me. so, right now this is tentatively planned as a series of intro shots, and then separate fics for each Main Character, and i don't really have much concrete besides one oneshot and a series of notes. this is gonna be rambley! chunks are in spoilers because long Spoiler: worldbuilding for trolls as a race "trolls" (not really sure what to call them given that, uh, TROLL IN THE DUNGEON! but we'll see) are a recently-discovered underground-dwelling race of "magical creatures" (i say magical because they're not known to muggles, but given that there's sometimes a distinction that magical creatures can't practice magic the way humans would, best to be clear). condy is the current ruler, and upon discovering that certain trolls--although trolls are more likely to be able to perform more magic without a wand, see sollux--possessed magical ability, immediately wanted them enrolled at hogwarts. larger magical society, which now includes other sentient races that wanted to have a say in the way things were done because i say so, agreed to this on one condition. the culling practice would immediately be stopped, and replaced with a more-lenient one. adult trolls who volunteered, of which there were not many, got "first pick" of the culling candidates, and could adopt a charge. lots of highbloods did this to curry favor with HIC, and of course anyone who did this chose the "best" wigglers, because troll culture sucks. for the less-desired kidlets, they were adopted out into host families, mostly human ones because wizarding society is still biased towards humans. karkat is one of these culled kids, and lives with the first carapace family to adopt a troll (slick and paint). Spoiler: various character notes carapacians can't speak verbally, so they communicate entirely through sign language and karkat grew up knowing primarily carapacian sign, with english as a secondary, although he's uncomfortable speaking it. given that most above-ground trolls were kids themselves and inconveniently far away besides, he didn't learn alternian. this is a bit of a problem, especially given that well-meaning-but-sheltered-and-privileged tiny feferi takes it upon herself to Educate the poor Lesser Troll once they meet. (she grows out of this, but 11 year olds are 11 year olds). when he gets to hogwarts, karkat immediately latches onto WV (herbology professor, huffpuff head) because he's a carapacian himself and also very dadly. this is how he and dave meet! aradia ends up a poltergeist a few years into her learnin'. what do you mean, gillyweed only lasts so long? whether or not she stayed underwater to make out with her merfolk boyfriend too long on purpose or not it up to debate. she'll never tell! she hangs around the school when she's not having ghost-merperson makeouts, and when there's enough interest for a ghoul studies class, she shows up as an afterlife study. students either love her or hate her, depending on how hard she's pranked them lately. she put vriska in the infirmary for a week for trying the jelly-legs curse on tavros. good times, good times. caliborn and calliope are currently the only members of their incredibly-rare, previously assumed nonsentient race involved in wizarding society. they were left on hogwarts' doorstep as kids and grew up sort of communally raised by the faculty there. no one is sure if this is legal. the headmaster sure did have a fun time addressing two letters to hogwarts when they turned 11, though. none of the other main twelve were cullable at birth, but although it's harder for them to be considered a candidate at their age, tavros and terezi (mostly tavros, though) could be put into an adoption program if their lusii were deemed "unfit" which is essentially just declaring them Not Real Trolls, because troll culture is ass even in magic land. they avoided this long enough to get to hogwarts, which means they're basically scott free. terezi brings dragonmom's egg to school with her. condy, in a PR stunt, marries sassacre and adopts his two kids (jane and john, feferi is raised by her lusus like a Proper Troll). she's not a great mom, unless she's buying them showy stuff like an imported australian wand for media attention. jade and jake are muggleborn, and the strilonde clan continues to be as weird about genetics as possible. dave and rose are half-veela, while dirk and roxy are all-human. the boys were raised by bro-but-not-bro, and the gals were raised by professor not-mom-lalonde. here is a link to everyone's houses (prrrrrobably, i might be convinced to change on some) and their "origin" as it were :P and here is a link to everyone's wand info and a blurb on why i picked some of the things i picked this is very dense. sorry ):
Transformers IDW crossed over with Kill Six Billion Demons The Transformers are basically Servants who have cast off their servitude and masters to become their own masters. Functionism is the specific Law that Koss gave their Protectors to subdue them. But the Protectors are gone, the Concordance is shattered, and they have taken on the mantle of the... well, what might they become with their white flames? (Or have they been Angels all along who have forgotten their roots?)
fucking around in minecraft making some of the Ruins from Undertale found myself musing that G----- probably would have been a Page of Void, for the hilarity of an erased person (font names and all). found myself thinking the sentence "A young skeleton stands in his room" and wondering if anyone's messed around with the idea of Undertalestuck yet. google search At least one bit of art for the other way around
[2:09:04 PM] albedo: nick [2:09:08 PM] albedo: changeling!hamilton y/n [2:09:12 PM] albedo: ALSO HI [2:09:27 PM] albedo: Hamilton -> Spring prince, Burr -> Winter prince, George III -> overthrown Autumn King, Washington -> newly ascendant Summer king? because ok the whole thing is basically 'sorrow and caution or flourishing desire', yeah? [2:09:33 PM] albedo: y/n? [2:09:49 PM] Nick: CHANGELING!EVERYTHING TBH BUT YEAH IM HERE FOR THIS [2:10:14 PM] albedo: YAY!!!! [2:10:27 PM] albedo: do you have kith thoughts [2:10:30 PM] albedo: am i derailing you [2:10:50 PM] albedo: i feel like hamilton would be an elemental or wizened but i'm not sure which. burr has to be mirrorskin right. [2:10:58 PM] albedo: and i think washington has to be a wizened soldier. [2:11:51 PM] albedo: and like. fairest draconic george iii? or bright one maybe? [2:11:55 PM] albedo: -lays here nerds quietly- [2:12:16 PM] albedo: I'M SORRY YOU'RE A MUSICAL NERD AND IT'S IN MY HEAD NOW i definitely haven't been listening to hamilton all day again [2:12:57 PM] albedo: (Eliza -> Fairest Flowering, Angelica -> Fairest Muse?) -hides face-
I feel like yeah, Hamilton's a nerd, but his essential flaw is that he doesn't know how to emotionally relate to people, not that he's suspicious of them, yeah? And "better to burn out than to fade away" seems... hella Hamilton. hffff. Fireheart Elemental, y'think? Or is there something that fits better... Fireheart — Elementals marked with fire, heat or electricity. Their blessing is Flickering Acumen: like a flame, the Fireheart’s faculties are bright and constantly on the move. The player can spend points of Glamour to add to Wits-based dice pools, on a one for one basis. -stares suspiciously at hamilton- And yeah, I think Draconic for George III, at least in the context of the American Revolution, his fatal flaw was overstretching and gripping too hard, yeah? Not a totally historically accurate idea of how things went but. -chinhands- Hoarding.
Unrelated: I recently remembered a message @keltena sent me ages ago which has led me to pondering the fact that "the characters are summoned as Servants in a Holy Grail War from Fate/Stay Night" is a viable crossover/AU for a lot of fantasy and sci-fi stories. Anything where you have characters fighting with a variety of weapons works, really.
And if you want you can make some of the characters masters in the war, and get powerplay stuff going on!
And if you're a godawful magic nerd like me, you can engage in the time-honored Nasuverse tradition of coming up with overpowered magical artifacts/abilities so you can have as many unstoppable forces meet as many immovable objects as possible.
@albedo @Bel Capricorn Hercules Mulligan: dual-kith Artist and Whisperwisp y/n? Lafayette: Fairest Lionhearted from that homebrew list. IDK about Laurens. Could be Truefriend, but he's a lot smarter than you'd think of for Beast... Also: Vaguely thinking it might be fun to see the Hidden Almanac crossed with Atop The Fourth Wall. In particular I think Pastor Drom and Nineties Kid should meet up and be wacky originally-comic-relief characters with hidden depths at each other. I think they'd get along- sure, her attempts at coolness may have "traumatized everyone under forty in the garden", but she also has that explosion-based theory of interspecies diplomacy that I feel like he'd respond really well to.
Incidentally, I can now tell you what classes various characters from my favorite game would be potentially summonable as, despite the fact that this would be a highly inadvisable Grail War because it would quickly turn into a Second Magic clusterfuck. There's already enough time travel weirdness in these two canons separately, don't make it worse.
in Home/Stuck Night bro strider is archer because they both have a bunch of UNBELIEVABLY SHITTY SWORDS
Yesssss yes good. (Y'think Lionhearted? I was thinking maybe Draconic kith, with him being a unicorn. -chinhands-)
Mist/Stay Night: Kelsier qualifies for Lancer as well as Assassin because of his iconography, even though Spoiler: Mistborn spoilers the spear was what killed him, not his weapon. These are, coincidentally, the same classes the Lord Ruler qualifies for. Spoiler: Mistborn spoilers And the same weapon Phantasm. As such, and Kelsier being the lying, sneaky, cheeky bastard than he is, Kelsier uses his "Always Another Secret" skill to make people think he's the Lord Ruler.
Tiny little Assassin!Vin a) is probably an even better candidate for this class than the group it's restricted to in the original F/SN and b) has that huge-ass koloss sword as a Phantasm, which is the kind of thing nobody expects an Assassin to pull out. (She also technically qualifies for all the Knight classes if you specify but why would you. Give this girl Presence Concealment and watch everyone die horribly.) EDIT: Actually on second thought I think all Mistborn Heroic Spirits would qualify for Archer. So add that to the classes under which Kelsier could impersonate TLR, I guess. The Best Scadrial Archer is definitely Wax, though.
There's all that explicit "knight in shining armor" imagery on him, though. But he could also go Draconic, I guess!
