I love that the entire figure skating community are apparently Instagram addicts.

I laughed at the Russian guy's makeup and made ick faces at Chris's performance. I think that was maybe the intended reaction, though? His costume was, like... bad. I wouldn't want to see anybody's ass in that thing.
(The mid-season animation budget conservation times have begun, I see.)

 

Right I literally thought 'I am squicked out but I also think I might not be if he was wearing decent clothing, and that says a lot about me'

Man, I'm really digging Yuri's growth of self-confidence. Also "I want to hated as the man who stole Victor from the world" THAT'S GAY. THIS IS GAY. I'M SO GLAD FOR THIS.

"I'm the only one who can satisfy Victor, I'm the only one who knows his love," oh my god. Oh my god this is a thing, isn't it. I'm so happy.

I do enjoy getting all these tidbits about each skater too. Because this show wants you to care so much about everyone. Though I don't actually think I needed to see all those ass-shots, I can appreciate a show that goes for it anyways.

 

i think that was the intended reaction with chris and the russian dude? i get that chris is supposed to be attractive I GUESS but he just creeps me tf out

i love hearing about all the other skaters though, they might be minor characters but they all have motivations and individual reasons for skating it's just !!!!

is it just me, or are they setting up chris and Russian Clown as like, bad and extreme examples of "love", while Yuri is trying to represent his own ideal, balanced, "good" love? like, chris explicitly said he was a "mature" eros, and that yuri had no idea what he was talking about, but he's gropey and creepy and WAY too into the sex appeal thing ("i'm gonna come!" anyone?). and the russian dude isn't over his old girlfriend, to the point of being obsessive and crying during his performance. yuri kinda represents a middle ground, aka a healthy relationship lol

i might be reading too much into it BUT OH WELL I LOVE THESE GAY BOYS IM HAVING FUN

Yeah, Chris's "eros" is definitely meant to be contrasted with Yuri's. Chris's performance is aggressive and unrefined, it tries way too hard in the wrong ways (get your bulge under control, man!) Yuri's is innocent, controlled, and purposeful (he's seducing Viktor.) You could even say that Yuri's is the more "mature eros."
As for Georg or whatever is name is... Skating Anime Eridan? I almost want to contrast him with Russian Yuri, since like him, he's dealing with getting passed over for someone else and not getting to be with the person he wants.

 

Yeah, I feel like Chris was the foil to Yuri while Georgi is foiling Yurio. Highlighting the things they're working towards and focusing on and how it can go poorly (or just differently) and why moderation is sort of key.

i didn't really like him from the get-go but when chris grabbed yuris ass it turned into 100% NOPE NO SIR

and i didn't think of contrasting russian dude with Yurio! good shit good shit all around

This show is so ridiculously good. I was really afraid that it wouldn't be representative but it seems to actually be. I'm so happy to see that this exists and its not explicit porn and it's high quality and popular.

I pulled @ADigitalMagician into a live viewing over Skype and made her watch it all so we could squeal together. I can't wait a week between episodes.

This is 11o% me being pedantic, but he is Swiss. His one jacket says Switzerland in German. There's a pretty large Italian population in the south of Germany and Switzerland because they all share the Alps on their borders, so he's probably a southern Swiss with Italian heritage living in the frozen mountains, explaining the surname. Actually a little bit of cool culture there -u-

 

these episodes cannot come fast enough. i love seeing everything theyre doing with the skaters but im thirsty af for an episode focusing on yuri and victor >:U

 

I know I am constantly thirsty for more yoi. It just feeds my brain with really good character building and nuance and gentle feelings every week. More.

there has been a lot of good, aesthetic art for this show. Which is well because this show deserves it. It's so beautiful. It's all so beautiful

 

Canon fact: Victor and Yuuri speak to each other in English, so, yeah, Victor probably didn't understand what Yuuri was saying when he basically confessed love to him on national TV. He doesn't speak Japanese.

....so, I have to mention, though, if Yuuri mostly practiced/learned his conversational English in Detroit.... did he... at all..... pick up just a smidge of a Minnesota accent.... by any chance................

Imagine.... Yuuri turning away from some bullshit and sarcastically mumbling, with a soft Japanese tone, "youuuu betcha." Or falling on his butt on the ice and quietly, almost out of hearing, muttering 'uffda.' I'm going off the rails with this and I'm not sure I mind.

Detroit is inherently funny to me as a native Minnesotan.
