I haven't been on tumblr, but someone posted this on facebook and now I'm confused.
(Then I read a science article and I am still mildy confused)

I thought the thumbnails were vaguely white and gold, but now I can't not see blue and black.

It's definitely white-gold for me. Black-blue just doesn't look right.

See, at first I saw white and gold, but now I'm seeing blue and gold and it's fucking me up.

It´s always white and gold. I can never see black anywhere, only blue and that looks like light or a filter.

    Precisely.

I see blue and gold. Am I anomalous?

Not sure. I saw it as quite distinctly blue and gold myself for a bit, but now it's back to white and gold...

Huh. I read it blue-black. Kinda wish I could read it white-gold just to see the change.

Did you read the science? The science made me feel a little better at least. :P

I've looked at it on like four different devices and can't see anything but blue/black.

most of the time it's a fairly desaturated blue/black with a strong yellow cast over the entire photo but my brain can't make the jump to white/gold

(also am I the only one who thinks that dress would look better in a real, clean white/gold?)

I've seen both blue/black and white/gold. Have not parsed blue/gold. My husband has almost exclusively seen white/gold, except for this version of the picture. Even this one he saw as two white/gold dresses.

EDIT: having read the Wired article linked to above, I am now wondering the following, in regards to the daylight-sensitivity mentioned right at the end - I am very much a night owl, and am actually quite photosensitive (usually have to drive with sunglasses in sunlight otherwise I have to squint too much and my vision blurs). On the other hand, my husband is a construction worker, and spends a significant amount of time out in bright sunlight, especially in the Manitoba winter where you get snow glare.

What messes with me is I can imagine what I see as white being a light blue. But even the much darker picture in the science article, if I look closely I can see the supposed black has a warm undertone, making it at best dark brown.

I'm exactly like your husband here. Only can see blue-black in that one special version of the picture.

Agreed! The very first time I saw the photo, I thought the black was more of a dark olive/brown. And I can definitely see the white as a pale blue.

I see it as white/gold, boyfriend sees it as blue/black except for the solid part at the top (which he sees as gold), and his wife sees it as blue/black. If the child knew her colors (and, you know, speech) I'd try to get her on my side and even the odds, but alas.

And like, even when I see "light blue," it only makes sense to me as the result of lighting, not the actual colour of the dress. My mind just flat-out refuses to parse it any other way, 'cause it just doesn't look right when I try.

I looked at this earlier today. I was seeing it as white and gold, and then it just suddenly flipped to being a dark, electric blue, and black, and now I'm only seeing it as blue and black. I don't know what the fucking is happening and my brain hurts.

Hmm.... Tried turning up my brightness level, but it didn't make difference....

See, to me, I can see how it could be white/gold under a blue light/filter, but the color balance of the rest of the photo is so yellow that my brain rejects that. It's yellow light reflecting off of slick black fabric, not blue shadow darkening white.

I only see black/blue. I can't see any of the white/gold at all.
