...well, I got the first one? Sort of? Quenya of course is maddeningly incomplete and I really wish my sentences had been simpler because I don't even know where to start looking for some of the grammar. But here is a really awkwardly translated prayer to Nienna, accompanied by the literal glosses because I'm kind of begging for some help here and it will be easier if I show my work...

Really not happy with that last sentence, but... it's a thing! And it exists!

Here's a few links on Quenya grammar. I will note that a lot of people disagree on shit where the grammar and vocabulary is concerned with the languages. Like there's a lot of grumbling about the Sindarin in the Jackson films due to criticism of the linguist behind the work in the films.

    Link 2
    Link 3
    Link 4
    Link 5

I am most familiar with the first link's view of the grammar personally.

I can also link the glossaries that some people have gotten up? Though you might have those already.

You might also want to take a look at the Tengwestie journal? While it's not really right on pertinent to what you're looking for like the grammars I posted they are very interesting to read articles.

*catches up on thread b/c for some reason i stopped getting notifications* animism definitely appeals to me to some degree but if animism really is a Thing it would mean that i might have killed things with souls b/c i've killed bugs because i'm terrified of them crawling on me so can't take them outside.

i think the only semi-spiritual things that have ever really happened to me was when i drew the first card from my first (and so far only) tarot deck and it was the queen of swords, and since the book told me to think about the visuals i got this feeling-image of the otherworldly lady on the card who was like "don't be afraid young one" or something (very cliche i know, but it felt like something for whatever reason), the time i saw a deer run right past the car when we were moving stuff from my grandma's condo to my aunt's house b/c my grandma was in the process of dying in the hospital since there was almost no way she was ever going to wake up again and she wouldn't have wanted to be on life support, plus when i thought i felt the presence of something and my dog got kind of weird in my house one day.

all of this could be because i've sort of constantly asked the powers that be (specifically the christian god in the past) to not let me see or really interact with spirits and such for a very long time, but i honestly have no clue.

there is one other weird thing that was sort of A Thing for me when i was a teenager, but i'm not sure whether it's a Coping Mechanism/Mental Health Thing, a "i need to feel unique" thing or Something Else. in any case i sort of forced it away b/c i figured it might be a Bad Thing.....and although some things have improved a lot of brain stuff might have actually gotten worse since then.

i also think that pop culture paganism is p interesting so when i'm feeling less terrible i'm probably going to look into it, since how i practice faith is very ??? meaning i'm not really sure what it is that i'm doing atm, plus i love learning about religions in general.

@Aondeug Thanks! I had some of those, but some are new. A large part of what's giving me trouble with the grammar, though, is that I'm not fully clear on what the grammary things in the original are called, so I'm not sure what to look for. "teach me to Thing and Other Thing, the way you do even though Event" there is way too much grammar in that

I love the first sentence, though. I'mma memorize it and write it in Tengwar and hug it forever.

More like- as in like diagramming the sentence and knowing what cases and moods and so on that I need. I was unfortunately Gifted in reading comprehension so I never needed to learn this stuff to pass English!

Oh. Ohhh. With that it might be handy to read some grammars of English? Or like...introductory linguistics books? Something that breaks down all the terms and what not. Then try doing some syntax trees with a language you know. Before finally branching off into Quenya using the examples of it we have in the canon.

I've found conflicting info on which elements' representations are supposed to be put in which direction on an altar and which season they're supposed to link to. Does it particularly matter if I'm not following a specific tradition?

Probably not. There's no Right way to do altars unless you're following a specific tradition or your god(s) say something (even then you can probably negotiate or say no). Reconstructed traditions like Heathenry and Kemeticism didn't have personal altars. It's very much a modern pagan thing.

I shall do that. Later. For now I'm going to Get Stuff Done and save editing for afterward. (Speaking of which, the Estë/Lórien prayer seems to want to split into two versions, the general and the specific. Are we asking for renewal because we're weary right now, or just whenever we're weary? Well, now we can choose either, whee!)

Speaking of which: is it just me, or is modern Kemeticism much more focusing on a personal relationship with the Gods than, AFAIK, the ancient practice?

Probably. I think it's partly because with all the reconstructed religions, we don't know much about Average Joe's practice and thoughts on religion and partly because there's not much of a priesthood and many practitioners are relatively isolated and solitary

-legit sometimes forgets about the occidental four elements-

-is drawing chaotic diagrams about how cows eating grass requires a balance in the Three Realms-

i am of no help here sorry

The Three Realms being a Celtpol thing. Everyone seems to have their own views of it because we honestly don't have a lot on it. I personally tend to view them both as a way of categorizing the world and also an element type system. So Spéir is quite literally the sky and air, but it's also things that are of the air and its qualities. So birds are Spéir as are certain fruits. There is Tir (Land), Spéir (Sky), and Farraige (Sea). The last also doubles as all bodies of water, salt or fresh. They require a sort of balance to keep things in order. Too much sun and not enough rain kills plants. Too much rain though and you're still going to kill certain plants. Not good enough earth and again the plants are fucked.

I like to believe this is why Lugus/Lugh has three heads at least in part. He is the master of all skills so he is a master of all three realms. Three heads, one for each. And why it's important that the Morrígna is a triplicate even if there are more or less than three sisters depending on your counts. She is a goddess of the future and divination. Of course she would be triplicated. Three is an auspicious and holy number. Three is the very essence of truth and all that the world is in numeralogical form.

Think I'll PCM invoke SCP-053 on some suicide-baiting snots. Does that count as a curse or merely blocking their ill will, since her schtick is in reflecting violence while remaining unharmed?
