im so livid rn because speaking of i just scrolled past a fic that im pretty sure said something along the lines of "this character with canon DID and 3 alters to the core now has a 4th alter who actually is a killer" like okay. stop. stop right fucking there. you don't get to fucking do that. i know more personalities can spring up in DID over time if not treated but an ""edgy"" alter is one too fucking cliche and two goes against the characters entire canon persona as a whole. i would have been more okay with it if he was struggling with a new alter that wasn't kind and he wanted to try and contain it, but no it was "this character gets accused of murder! and he's actually guilty! and phoenix gets disbarred again for defending a spooky scary mentally ill person!"

I haven't played Phoenix Wright, but... it seems like the canon story was kind of about breaking expectations by having the person/people with DID actually not be dangerous or anything? So bonus points for betraying canon I guess.

Is this someone from SoJ? 'cause I can't think who you're talking about off the top of my head.

But yeah, even the Japanifornia court system isn't so borked that being the defense lawyer for someone who's found guilty gets you disbarred.

To be fair it was probably very poorly written and not true to canon. I only read the tags and description before I nope'd the fuck outta there. But yeah, it's one of the witnesses in the 4th case of SoJ. Spoilers aside, he came under suspicion for a bit but then again what witness doesn't. BUT YEAH.

    And surprise kissing!

(Oh god, there's so much wrong there. The juxtaposition of the tags "vivisection" and "mild gore." Galra!Keith, because sure, why not, just throw that in any old fic, it's the new Kakashi/Iruka. The title's distressingly racist implication that the alter's habits include [aside from genocide, vivisection, and surprise kissing] speaking Spanish all the time.)

(ETA: Oh, right, and those mythical DID meds.)

To me, the confusing part is what the title has to do with the tags and summary, not what language it's in. Maybe in between the other horrible things, Lance& takes the blue lion out for a spin and nukes a couple inhabited planets? Or maybe the author's just using the word wrong.

(Whoops, deleted so TheSeer's thing doesn't make sense anymore, but I pointed out to KarrinBlue that "Genocidio" was Spanish. I didn't realize that when I first saw the title, I thought it was just really stupid.)

Oh yeah I know it's Spanish, it just reads as a very stupid title in this case. Especially for a fic that looks to be written in English.

Okay, this is INCREDIBLY specific, but...I once read a Homestuck/Harry Potter fusion fic that used the FTM Dave headcanon. The thing is, they went into detail on how a wizard doctor completely stopped him from experiencing AFAB-style puberty and menstruation...but it was also mentioned outright that he still had a vag.

I just found it bizarre that a wizard wouldn't be able to magic up the right genitals, basically. I don't know much about HP, to be fair, but it felt very oddly-done.

missoyashirou Someone please give me a tiny dog to play with

Considering Harry Potter magic includes shit like accidentally evaporating bones within a second and subsequently regrowing an entire arm within the span of a night, that does feel like an odd choice.

Maybe if it was either a choice on Dave's part or if the puberty and/or menstruation were the result of more wizard contraceptives and sidestepping the issue of gender transitioning magic, but when you include that into the setting and know how extreme JKR goes when it comes to the medical profession, let the boy have his preferred set of genitals.

Given that he was mentioned to feel genital dysphoria, I'm guessing the lack of a dick wasn't a choice on his part.

This has probably been brought up before but: When a particularly OOC bit of crap becomes widely-accepted fanon.

Por ejemplo, one of my fandoms has a character who is constantly written as this out-of-control ragemonster who blows up at tiny things and regularly beats up his boyfriend for not buying the right groceries or whatever…and that characterization has nothing at all to do with canon. Said character is basically a walking inferiority complex, so it's not like he doesn't have issues, and he's definitely capable of a bit of the old ultraviolence if it serves a purpose (he cut a guy's head off to get in good with some mobsters, for instance), but he's also very calculating and in control of himself; he canonically raises his voice exactly once, and that's shock rather than anger, and at one point he kind of freaks out and pulls a gun on someone he shouldn't but is very quickly talked down by another character. He also seems to value his allies pretty highly (he, er, doesn't have many of them, the poor bean) and would not be inclined to treat them poorly. >:(

If, as an author, you think of character situations first and fill in the magic as an afterthought, it's easy to get contradictions like that. (In fact, similar things turn up in HP canon a lot - see also, "How are there enough wizards in Britain to support all those pro Quidditch teams?" and "Top 100 more convenient Portkeys that Barty Crouch could have made Harry touch.") The author probably assumed that trans!Dave meant real-world-ish trans issues and conflicts, and never thought to wonder why Dave couldn't just go to St. Mungo's and get his junk transfigured.

Well. If we're talking St. Mungo's, it's essentially the shadiest operation in the entire world, so I would understand not wanting to let them specifically touch one's junk. :::PPP
