Who's ready to move forward? My academic hellscape has abated, at least for now.

@esotericPrognosticator and @missoyashirou are the ones I haven't heard from in a good while now, even in responses to PMs. eP warned us he might vanish to focus on schoolwork (in fact his last post is on the IC thread, almost a month ago), and from Misa's more recent posts it sounds like she is Dealing With Some Shit, either she hasn't got the spoons or notifications are broken again.

If they don't return soon I'll do what I usually do when someone can't make a session: take over and play them cautiously, go along with the available players' decisions but avoid unnecessary risks. Stella and Lyriae will pick locks and break heads but they won't stick their hands in statues' mouths for you, because killing off a character while their player is gone is like #4 on the list of DM Dick Moves. Naturally they can return and take back control of their PCs at any time.

I'll only do this if a majority of the group is still active: if 3 or more players become unable to participate regularly, the game will probably go on hiatus.

    Does this sound reasonable?

Addendum: I am taking this time to roll on the random encounter table in advance and cackle.

for the record, if I ever disappear for a while, Liron would absolutely put their hand in statues' mouths, if they couldn't get someone else to do it for them

@Wiwaxia still here? I see Swirl is still liking my posts, so even if they lack spoons they are still following along. At this point I don't know what's happened with Misa and I'm assuming eP won't reappear until the winter holidays.

yo, I'm about to pull a disappearing act for my own school bs, so I move that we do the hiatus thing until winter break starts for real

    all in favor?

    following along, though

Yeah, with Misa and eP missing in action, Swirl and Wiwaxia present but in spoon deficit, and Grim about to disappear, it seems like this is the best option.

I'll send out PMs around late December/early January to see where things stand. Until then, good hunting!

And after the stunning display of completely in-character gullibility re: Chanterelle, I award all players inspiration.

(Those who are new to 5e, you can spend inspiration to grant yourself advantage on one roll. It's usually granted as a reward for good roleplaying, especially a player roleplaying a character flaw accurately even to their own detriment.)

aw, Frood! I'm touched on my and my fellow players' behalf! :D incidentally, is there a time limit on inspiration? like, if you give a player inspiration, do they have to use it to confer advantage within an hour or a day or what have you or lose it with no benefit, or does it stick around indefinitely? also, do you have to declare you're using your inspiration before you make the advantaged roll, or can you roll once, look at it, go "shit that's terrible I'm using inspiration," and then roll again and take the higher?

(Lyriae and I vote Back of Cloak for painting title. ...actually, does anyone in the party know that it's covered by a cloak? or do they just know it's mysteriously dark?)

SHIT FUCKIN' RANDOM ENCOUNTERS TABLE WHAT IS THIS DUNGEON also I'm noticing a pattern here re: animals constructed of gems/precious stones. I presume that's the Medusa doin' her thematic gorgon thing? or gorgon-themed wizardy magic thing, maybe, because creating animated, exquisitely carved stone animals is not within the usual gorgon repertoire. we're dealing with a skilled magic-user, at any rate. also, blue! more Deep Thematic Shit! ...do I have to roll for Lyriae to realize all that IC, or?

why must Alabaster complicate a collective address for our party, dammit :'''( (jk, @Wiwaxia , complication of gendered address is always a good thing. and I'm happy that Alabaster corrected the tiger's mistaken assumption. down with arbitrary gendering!!!) anyway, thoughts on dealing with tiger/the wisdom of letting Alabaster interact with it? I assume we're gonna try to talk it out instead of attacking immediately? Lyriae knows fuckall about art, but she's always happy to smoothtalk encourage positive interactions with NPCs, flirting optional but likely, especially if the tiger isn't overtly masculine aside from its voice. [gazes longingly at Persuasion modifier]

edit: if there's actually a way to format strikethrough text I would appreciate knowing what it is

First skim parses this as "Lyriae will use STR and flex her way to smoothtalk and flirting"

Normally inspiration only lasts till the end of the session, but we don't have discrete sessions, so... I'm going to say you have it until you use it, subject to change if that turns out to be broken? You can't hoard inspiration: you either have it or you don't. If you haven't used your inspiration and you do some amazing roleplaying, you don't get an extra one. I will say you can definitely burn inspiration after the fact to improve a garbage roll, though.

Nobody knows. You all decided to either roll Perception checks (which you failed) or declare your characters didn't notice. ^_^

    :)

Lyriae knows some magic, and she's got high Intelligence, so I think it's reasonable for her to make your deductions about the pattern and its practical implications. Maybe leave the symbolic interpretation to Sarnai and Alabaster, though: they're the artsy ones around here.

Alabaster's not even the only non-lady in the party, I think. (Liron: "why gender when there is SCIENCE?")

sounds good, thanks! (especially the ex post facto usage option. nice.) is inspiration applicable to literally any roll a player makes, btw? or to every roll except damage rolls or something like that?

YEAAAAAAAAAH ROLEPLAYING in that case I vote we call it Testament to Gullibility. Lyriae votes we call it We're All Fuckin' Idiots.

    (: (: ((((((((:

gotcha! I mean, my deductions might be totally incorrect anyway, so. no Mary Sues here, no sir.

I was under the impression that Liron's identification with ladyhood was "sure why not" and thus that they would not be bothered by a reference to them as such? could definitely have that wrong, though. in any case I think "why gender when there is SCIENCE?" is an admirable philosophy and applaud Liron for adhering to it.

@esotericPrognosticator Sorry, I should clarify: Inspiration applies to any d20 roll. (attack rolls, ability checks, or saving throws)

I think you're right about Liron. I'll have to ask @thegrimsqueaker to remind me, though. Believe it or not, there are a couple of phenomena in the Maze that might affect nonbinary people and women differently, and I'd rather not make the ruling by flipping a coin if they've got a definite attitude one way or the other. :P
