We finally bought a new version of the Sound of Music and I'm watching it for the first time in years and I'm so happy.

I have rolled black mage and then white mage in the fiesta. I am Team Oreo or Team No Fucking Defense. Third job is ranger but I have a ways to go to get there so Team No Fucking Defense will continue.

I am honestly a bit bummed to see it's ranger. I was kind of hoping that I'd get another fucking mage.

My hair is officially in its awkward growing out stage! It looks a bit silly but it makes me happy because it's a step towards having long hair again.

My alligator plush came in today! It is not as big and plush as I had imagined, but that is okay because it is very green and very very good. Good plush, best gator. Its eyes are very very green, and it has a pretty little scale pattern with yellow highlights on the flanks, and four whole rows of felt spines! And they are all very lovely to the touch, they make little fwip fwip sounds when you move them or scrap your fingernails over them. And it's just. Good. Good, good, good.

In other news, I think I have maybe lost my mind?

Roommates got a new air conditioner as a gift from their parents, so I'm snagging the old one! Sure, it rattles unless you hit it just so, but it's fan setting is a nice steady white noise, and I just rearranged my room so it won't blow right on my back as I try to sleep.

    Also, surprise sushi. * v *

I shocked myself today! Was TIG welding a bit of tubing, got the rod to close to the electrode, and WHAM. It was really rad! My high school gym had an old ragged AC, and every once in a while a big old burst of air would just FWUMP right through the length of tubing and send it smacking against the ceiling with a burst of dust and paint chips, and a chunk of tile that one time. It was like that, but with my arm. Weird thing, it didn't even register as pain, just force and motion. Started aching for a bit a few minutes later, but it stopped right quick. Wonder what's up with that?

I love poetry and I have theatrical training, so I love to read poetry out loud. Two days ago in American Lit we were working with Leaves of Grass, and the prof had each of us read one line in turn. But most of my classmates are 1) unfamiliar with poetry 2) not completely secure in their English and 3) entirely untrained in enunciation. So to be honest, their reading was really annoying to me and I tried to kind of make up for it with my own.

So today, a classmate I barely know complimented my diction and intonation and said to the whole class "We can tell Wix's reading is on a whole different level than anyone else's!" and now the whole class keeps asking me to read the Emily Dickinson poems we're working with right now and complimenting me, and I'm so happy! I really needed this today!!

So, I'm under TONS of stress this week as I'm working on several important work and college things, all with extremely tight deadlines. A year ago, I'd be skipping meals due to anxiety by this point, as well as being paralyzed with it and unable to do anything. This year? Not only am I VERY CHILL, I'm also managing to give myself plenty of rest, downtime and some decent pacing so I don't burn myself out. At the same time as I'm working really hard, I've also skyped with friends, gone to art museums, had sewing time, will go to the gym tonight... I'm so proud of how much I've grown up in a year and how easy it is now to secure myself in a bubble of mental peace that doesn't waver as I scurry about in order to Get Things Done.

Life is weird. I live in Tennessee and take welding classes at a local technical college, so I expect both the gay marriage thing and the battle flag thing to come up at some point. What I did not expect is to bear witness to a very loud argument between a blocky, ex-soldier, down home country christian pit bull of a middle aged man who believes that homosexuality is a sin that no real christian would ever allow to take place and that the confederate flag is a symbol of a racist past that people are stupidly clinging to for no good reason; and a weedy little know it all saluki of a college age kid who thinks that religion and politics should be kept separate with a ten foot fence made of flaming tigers and that the confederate flag is a 'battle flag' and major symbol of Southern pride that has no racist connotations whatsoever.
    It was pretty fucking hilarious.

Incidentally, it really ticks me off how people call that flag a symbol of southern pride when we lost that goddamned war. Is absolutely nothing of significance we've done beside age war against our own country on the platform of slave-fueled economic prosperity? I'm not a history buff, nor am I the kind of guy to get all proud things I had no hand in making, but goddamn, I like the South! Why do my people gotta be determined to ruin that for me?

And also it was never the Confederate flag. It was proposed but not adopted, and it was incorporated as the canton in the Confederacy's second and third flags, but never was itself an official flag of anything but the Army of Northern Virginia.
