In the airport scene, what is Yuuri's actual sentence that the subs translated as "Please be my coach until I retire"? Because the word "coach" was definitely not in there, and I heard "intai made boku [something] onegaishimasu", but I listened to it about fifty times and I can't figure out what the verb is. Coaching might have been implied by context, but I'm pretty sure the underlying sentence does not specify coaching and thus sounds even more like a proposal.

I have now watched that scene so many times that I can't unsee the animation error where Yuuri's jacket and scarf change color for one shot, and if I have to suffer, so do all of you.

i've seen a japanese translator on tumblr saying it was "intai made boku no koto onegaishimasu"; "until i retire, please (take care) of me/the things about me/the things that make me". nothing about coaching.

If we know one thing about Yuuri, it's that he's easily thrown off his mental game. Still, I was kind of hoping that he wouldn't totally fall apart without Victor. Ah well. The really good short program saved him. And in proper sports anime fashion, he's going into the final as the biggest underdog.

Spoiler: Yuuri, Ep 9

Yuuri has always had a lot of trouble saying what he wants - or even admitting that he wants anything. Think of the way he said "I'll never surpass Victor if I just imitate him" and then immediately backed off as soon as Nishigori questioned him, or the way he wanted to choose the music for his free skate and then stepped back and asked his coach to choose. When he's in his skating headspace (especially when he's skating Eros), he can be up front about what he wants, demand attention and respect. I'm so glad that now, outside of that headspace, he can say that he wants to win the gold not just when he's winning, but even when he's had a rough competition and is disappointed in himself.

That's one of the things I like about the airport scene too. Yuuri steps up in a big way. He asks for something he would never have even considered that he could have at the start of the show - the open-ended commitment of Victor's time until he retires. It's huge. Even if he's planning on retiring after the Grand Prix Final, what he actually asks might mean that Victor never returns to skating. But he asks. And Victor meets him where he is, like he's done all along.

I am so happy about Katsuki Yuuri's character development. <3

Well, we've known since early on that this skating season is almost certainly Yuuri's last -- from what Skating Fandom folks on Tumblr an FFA have said, it sounds like you don't stay competitive very long in figure skating, between age and the compound effects of injuries.

The Grand Prix is mid-season, though -- there's still further competitions -- so it would be strange for Yuuri to retire right then unless he has a Career-Threatening Injury or similar. Also, given the popularity of the series, there's a good chance we'll get a second season of the anime.
