It's explicit that Dudley's crew beat him up, yeah. I want to say in the beginning of book 3, but it could honestly be anywhere between 2-5. I'm pretty sure it's not 1 because I reread that way more recently than I did any of the others, and Dudley lets up on him after the Dementor attack in 5 and is downright pleasant in their last exchange in 7.
Yeah, I knew Dudley got better. And if I remember right he was too scared of Harry to mess with him TOO directly after the Aunt Marge thing even before the Dementors. I just couldn't remember how far his torment went in the early books, because I'm not sure I've reread them in most of ten years.
Book 1 definitely makes mention of extreme bullying, though iirc it isn't given a specific source in relation to Dudley and Company. But there's made mention of a time Harry was being bullied and teleported himself up to the school roof, so...
Yeah, Harry's definitely been through Some Crap. Which is where this all started with the fanfiction gripes, really- fic authors decide it's not enough because he's not being raped or hospitalized.
Now we're back to that one I complained about here earlier where Petunia kicks him hard enough to break his ankle, he runs a long distance on said broken ankle, works a shift in customer service, sleeps a night, goes to work the next day, walks all the way to Malfoy Manor, and then the author suddenly decides she also stabbed him at the same time she kicked him and only at this point do his wounds start bleeding. EDIT: Here it is, and the above is the least stupid part of it.

But then that one fic had the delightful amnesia romance plot that took a sharp left into that upsetting breakup+returning-to-your-abuser ending, Consequence was quality but way more focused on plot than on shipping, and Delicacy went a little too shmoopy and also threw forced breeding and literal baby eating at me (which I was unironically into, but still). Most of what's left seems to be kinda... sex slavery and/or noncon flavored. I'm not opposed, but that's not really what I'm after. Which has happened! But okay, Spoiler: mildly nsfw a tailpipe is not an appropriate catch-all term for robot asshole Okay, first of all, not all of these guys don't even have tailpipes. Megatron turns into a gun. Now I'm just stuck here visualizing someone just....... born without an asshole. A butt, only with skin covering the spot where their asshole should have been. Just smooth crack, all the way down. But even for the others, one, a tailpipe is pretty dang rigid. Thinking about sticking your junk up inside that doesn't seem all that ideal. And two, the entire purpose of a tailpipe is to sit right out there in the open. So when a vehicle is driving, it's expelling exhaust from its exhaust. I am now thinking about robot farts. Hot. But also, you can, like. See tailpipes. On normal everyday car-shaped alt modes. That is this robot's asshole and part of their colon, just.... hanging out there for the world to see. All the time. I am now looking at the hole that someone used to have sex with this robot. If I touch this vehicle's tailpipe, I am fingering robot asshole. There was a mention of their favorite game being Harry Hunting and no one wanted to get in the way of Dudley's gang. In chapter 3 of book 1. In chapter 2 before that mention is made of Piers Polkiss being the one that holds people's arms back as Dudley punches them. While this isn't explicitly a mention of them beating the shit out of Harry as a group in book 1 it is a heavy implication that they at least tried.
The exact quotes "Piers was a scrawny boy with a face like a rat. He was usually the one who held people's arms behind their backs while Dudley him them." (25) "Harry was glad school was over, but there was no escaping Dudley's gang, who visited the house every single day. Piers, Dennis, Malcom, and Gordon were all big and stupid, but as Dudley was the biggest and stupidest of the lot, he was the leader. The rest of them were quite happy to join in Dudley's favorite sport: Harry Hunting." (31) Also I misremembered the no one wanting to mess with Dudley's gang mention is book 3 specifically. The mentions of a specific moment of his bullying was chapter 4 or 5 I believe but I'll have to look it up. Was chapter 4 yeap. "Now that he came to think about it...every odd thing that had ever made his aunt and uncle furious with him had happened when he, Harry, hand been upset or angry...chased by Dudley's gang, he had somehow found himself out of their reach... ...and the very last time Dudley had hit him, hadn't he got his revenge without even realizing it?" The chimney thing was 2 and specifically mentions that it was to avoid the gang: Dudley's gang had been chasing him as usual when, as much to Harry's surprise as anyone else's, there he was sitting on the chimney.
Can I just find one explicit fic where Drift isn't tied up, rendered helpless or extremely submissive? I get that his character edges him in the direction of being a sub but a little variety would be nice. /petty gripe

(That reminds me, once more, that there's a dearth of good Sollux/Rose anything, not much good pale Sollux/Terezi that I could find, and the only decent Rose/Vriska fic I recall is, afair, written by Roach. Which is terribly Unfair because dammit, what I apparently need more of in life is pale Rose/Vriska where Rose helps Vriska get her shit unfucked, or possibly ashen Rose/Vriska, with the third leaf being "everyone else". Alternately, Rose and Vriska being terrible, terrifying disasters together. And "write it yourself" doesn't work too well when I'm already stuck on writing a post-war Hermione/Draco fic b/c I got shipteased with that once and went "wait, why can't they hook up if they're managing to get along okay post-war?"
