So does anyone else here play this? I just got it yesterday after having heard about it and thinking wow that looks badass. I guess the best way I can describe it is like...No Man's Sky but in the ocean? In the exploring an alien world and collecting shit and trying to survive and build more shit sense. The world is always the same each time though. In terms of how the biomes look and the sorts of creatures that live in them. Your landing site is a bit different each time though from what I can see.

AND IT IS PRETTY AND THE SOUND DESIGN IS SO GOOD.

I've watched Markiplier's LPs of it! Which is not quite the same thing, I admit. I agree that it looks really pretty and really cool. I've been holding off on getting it till the creator's got it out of beta, though - last I heard, it was still in alpha.

It's actually very playable for what it is, honestly. There's a lot of issues with pop-in and it's not the best optimized thing. There's also no real end game implemented yet. But there's a nice and beefy amount of content for the price currently. I need to play it more but as it is I think I'd be fine with this just being the end of the content updates. It won't be from what I know of the developers (and they're pretty open about shit from what I've heard). But I'd be fine with what I paid for what I'm getting.

Keep in mind though that I am intensely fucking biased in favor of the ocean.

Oh, yeah - from what Markiplier's demonstrated, it does look extremely playable and quite content-rich. I'm more holding back because I know I'd get really frustrated with having to start from scratch each time there were major updates, since I know Markiplier's had to restart three or four times as a result of that. I do plan on picking it up eventually! Just...after it's reached a point where I won't get burnt out on it because the developer's still filling things in.

I've been watching his LP from his last restart, and this game seems really cool but I am never ever getting inside an underwater cave, in a game or otherwise.

my mom bought it for my brother on steam (we, too, were lured in by markiplier lets plays) and i'm pretty excited to try it out while i'm visiting the family this december! it's very pretty, and what hints at lore are in right now are super interesting

You are so different from me. Because the moment I saw a small underwater cave I swam over to that shit and fucking drowned to death. Happily. Like every time I die from drowning my little heart goes doki doki.

Spent a few hours on it now. My current game after the fucking around and getting my settings straight game I've been fucking with for two hours now. I've got myself a scanner and have set up a vehicle platform. I have scanned a few of the bits needed for the seamouth. So I am giddy to find out what the fuck the seamouth actually is when I can build it.

I was kind of worried when people complained about the hostile creatures but after having spent time with the game I don't really feel that? I've not played for a long time but I've only had to look up one item so far, that being crashfish powder. Otherwise I've avoided frustration with collecting stuff and figuring out what they are or do. Same goes with the hassle the hostile creatures give you. Honestly I really like them? There's a variety of them like the snoodly sharks near the creepervines and the dudes who hide in the crannies of abandoned ship sections. So it's not the same things over and over again. You can learn where these things show up and how to avoid them from what I've experienced. Like the snoodly sharks hang out in the seaweed forests so you know to keep an eye out for them before you near the towers. You get a feel for how close you can get to them before you piss them off and how fast they move too. While I have been killed by shit I didn't really know about I don't really mind that. If anything I really, really like the mysterious creatures I don't know about have killed me.

Because that's the ocean. It's dark and big and mysterious and full of all kinds of living things. Some are harmless and some are going to rip you a new asshole and some just want you to leave them alone but otherwise aren't actually aggressive. The gaspod dudes are like that. They don't hound you down like the snoodly sharks, but they also don't want you getting up in their jock. They'll drop their pods and then make a break for it. Like some actual animals that live!

    And that's just cool.

Also holy shit the biomes are really neat? Like you start off near like...coral beds and such with some caves. Close enough to the seaweed forests that are vital to you. But there's an open ocean area where I can't see the floor at all. Whatever the fuck is down there I am going to have to wait. And there's these weird glowy orbs! What are they! I dunno. But I left a beacon so I can find them easily when I can afford to dive that far down.

There's just so much shit. Jesus christ.

how did i not see this omfg
i've been playing since mark first started playing it which was.... i have no idea how long ago but i just love it. i've been to every area except the recently updated lost river and i am just. so so so in love with everything about this game. i love the creatures, i love the story no matter how bare-bones it may be, and i love every single new update and I LOVE THE DEVELOPERS FOR NOT ABANDONING IT. it's super playable now and i'm biased too but for an early access game, it is fully playable and the only thing it lacks now is story - to which isn't even actually that true cause there is some bits and pieces of a story, you just have to put them together yourself for the time being.

i'm only slightly annoyed at them taking away the multi-purpose room, which i realize makes sense and forces you to explore earlier, but for someone who started off only having to farm minimal resources before i could get away from the life pod, it's a jarring change :P also, unless they've fixed it since, the lifepod still glitches and drifts after being fixed and it's drift speed is faster than your average swim speed, so i built a fence of pipes around mine.

also here's their development trello if you guys don't know of it already - potential content spoilers in there, though :P

also i played around with the console a while ago and look at my beauties

omg what are those things they are super neat

And yes it is really playable! I'd honestly be content with the game as is. But it's really lovely knowing that they're still working on it and seeing how regularly they update and shit. Because while it's delightful enough as it THERE COULD BE SO MUCH MORE.

I know they have plans to flesh out the story to the point of it being linear - you can go at your own pace on it and not even do it in the first place, but it'll be there. The main "mission" is supposedly going to be freeing the Sea Emperor and finding out how and why the aurora crashed.

Those are the Sea Dragon Leviathan (who was smaller when I took the screenshot and in beta, he's fully implemented and MUCH bigger now - the green one) and the red mean looking one is the bastard called the Reaper Leviathan and he is a DICK. If you get too close to him with a seamoth he'll grab it, try to destroy it, and then murder you, so stay far away =/ They hang out near the front and the opposite side of the aurora, but i've seen them near the floating island too. The Sea Dragon is late game area and he spits magma and swallows you.

Also some things I've learned along the way if they are at all useful
    - Feeding a stalker a Peeper makes it temporarily docile towards you and it'll bring you metal scraps if any are nearby
    - You can also give a stalker a metal scrap for it to play with and decidedly leave you alone
    - Make multiple bases in key areas and you'll be thanking yourself later - I mainly make mine near the aurora for the exploration mission, near the floating island for supply/food runs, and in the sand dunes area as a main base of operations.
    - You can never have too many batteries or battery charging stations
    - A hallway makes a great temporary base if you're still looking for things you need to go to the floating island to get the multipurpose room and grow beds
    - You can plant rotten food
    - Only use the radiation suit for going near the aurora, use a reclamation suit and a rebreather for everything else
    - Dive reels are actually useful for exploring abandoned bases underwater and any deeper areas

Hello yes I fucking love this game even though it scares the everloving shit out of me. I went below 100m one time and actually nearly peed myself because holy fuck why is the ocean a thing. I love it!! I love biolumiscent things. I love the exploring. But ohhhhhhhhhh. I shuddered thinking about it.

    :D

I have never understood the fear of the ocean really. Deep or open or no. Granted I want to drown to death in it and find that idea romantic so I am an outlier who should not be counted.

Because Manannán is punishing you for your complacency.
