I can't even translate this because I don't speak Latin (as previously asserted) and I'm out of practice in Greek so I forget how he misunderstands Greece's "go around the damn wall" (isthi peri ton teikhos) (second panel) badly enough to bust through the damn wall but if I recall it's something about "peri" being a different word in Latin

(The problem is that I can't translate the first panel because it's too late for brain.)

All you need to know is this is the most "I am so much of a nerd I can't contain it" thing I can think of. (No I don't remember who made it or how I found it other than 'tumblr.' My bad.)

 

occasionally this jewelry commercial comes up on tv, and its big selling point is two diamonds
and the tagline is something like "one is for your best friend, and the other for the love of your life"
and everytime I know it's a commercial, but before the "the woman who's both" bit comes in, I keep imagining three people in this equation, not two

I don't think a jewelry company would be down with a romantic partner and a platonic partner getting a single ring together for their darling. not very capitalism friendly.

edit: if someday poly relationships became more commonplace, though. definitely jewelry commercials with hands just covered in rings. trying to push one wedding ring and one engagement ring...for each person you're with.

Today is Christmas decoration day for my family; we go crazy overboard. I'm gonna take pictures of everything this year because I just need someone to understand.
So, pictures of my house incoming in like. A few hours? Or several hours. I don't know how much longer we'll be decorating

Tomorrow is the last day of class, I have two assignments due, and I don't have the motivation to do either of them. I have reached the fuck it point. I can't afford to be at the fuck it point, but it's where I am.

 

I had a stubborn ingrown toenail and needed to call over spouse to help bc I couldn't find the good clippers and why not make the medic do it this time. Hurt a LOT, and immediately cat came running over with huge OnO face to make sure I wasn't getting hurt and almost hissed at Nate like he was guilty. Then proceeded to follow me around and noof my foot to make sure it was ok, and now won't get off my blanket clad legs to be nearer to harmed foot despite.. there being literally no harm at all.

Kitty took the "Nurse Kricket 10ccs of cuteness, stat" request a bit too literally. My presh kitty nurse. She does this any time I'm having a bad pain spike or feel really sick. She can tell when I'm extremely tachy, even, the fat little angel.

 

what a good kitty. my dog cupcake is a big tramply dumbass who loves to crush boobs with her feet, but i discovered today that she is the perfect weighted blanket substitute in case of anxiety :')

Our elderly neighbor bought us groceries because we bring him baked goods sometimes. He says to consider it a Christmas present and just return with more baked goods eventually. What he doesn't know is because of vet trips and bills and various small emergencies, we haven't had grocery money for a month and have been using nonperishables and the occasional $20 bread and apples and peanut butter grocery run. This cool dude is constantly looking after the kids in our neighborhood and it's largely because of him that we've been introduced to people up and down the street. And how Key got her occasional tutoring job with selfsame kids.

There are such good people.

We know he's fond of coconut cake and loves peaches so he's getting a shit ton of coconut cake and peach goodies. And I'm going to make peppermint bark this year and give him, like, an entire bar.

 

What good pets.

My cat Penny seems to know she is the perfect heatpad when one is crampy. She also has a good sense of when I am really down and will follow me around and insist on cuddling, even when it interferes with her usual 'routine'.

Do we have a No. 6 thread? I stated watching that show years late to the party and I already know I want to crash something with babbling and carrying on.

For example, I'm reading the novel series the show was adapting as I watch the show (I dunno it just ended out that way, I guess I'm watching the anime and then reading the source material, it's been fun) and though the show is a very faithful adaptation so far, there are two things I like better about the novels: there is a lot more worldbuilding in paragraph dumps they couldn't quite fit into an anime, and Shion is a lot more of a weird, kind of unstable, perverted human being. Like, some of that translates over to the anime, but not all of it? Not even a lot? Part of it is that the novel had a better format to explore the details of his thoughts and feelings (like having the time for several more sentences about how the hurricane brings out uncontrollable, animal, destructive feelings in him, which was cool) but part of it was really just a weird depth to his character that the anime dropped.

I don't blame anyone for that, he has a lot of sides to him and they chose to focus on a few in the more fast-paced medium of anime, that's cool. But like... look, when Nezumi threatens Shion early on in the anime and tries to push him around, Shion basically does :< and shuts down. He appears to overload and can't figure out what to do about it. Shion in the novel is like -slips hand around ur neck- -seductively whispers- 'I'll bit ur fuckin nose off'

And then they fall over into one of Nezumi's shitty book piles, but DAMN, son. THAT'S something they didn't put in the polished anime version, isn't it. You learned how to 'fight?' Is that the word you were looking for? It's still canon that you haven't had a romantic/sexual relationship by now, this is just a whole bunch of weird buried shit you've got in you from fuck knows where. This is literally just how you are. My favorite part is that it actually unsettles Nezumi. He will threaten and shove you around all day but bring out the kinks and he's like 'oh... uh.......... fuck'

(I like this a little better--Shion has the same oblivious, doesn't really know the real world character he had in the show, but it's more complicated; he has undercurrents.)

 

THIS IS THE COOLEST THING I HAVE SEEN THIS WEEK I almost said all my life but that is true of like everything and I should stop saying it so much but also it's true

 

ye! It struck me bc like. Wood is really hard to repair sometimes, especially when it's that damaged/forgotten. It splits apart and splinters and gets awful where it's broken depending on how long/what happened and sometimes you don't have any chance of getting the broken bits back. And the clear acrylic doesn't hide that. It just embraces the broken, ruined edges after they've been treated best they can be, and lifts with what's missing to make it whole as can be again. It doesn't try to blend in, even. It's just.. helping. It's highlighting the break like normal kintsugi does, but not by rejoining broken pieces, by replacing entire chunks of something that's missing and never coming back.

AND IDK THAT SPEAKS LIKE HELL TO ME.
