  3. Mara

    Mara The Evil One

[Collection is difficult, if not impossible, as the gold is still firmly attached to the rest of the chariot.

Mara does, however, notice the asshole's greed and spawns several suspicious shiny gold bars.]

It seems this Mara is much cooler than ours, at least.

And what's your Mara like? [Onyx is idly taking notes on... whatever odd enticement ritual is going on with Mara and the Assholes. Courtship? Predation? Something else? Science.]

Short for Maaracythe, the first Dark Oracle. Created by... I don't remember the guy's title, but the, uh, kinda supreme deity of the next galaxy over. And not exactly a fun guy. A huge fan of the Dark Act, that is, blowing up a remortal so thoroughly they die forever and don't come back. For something as insignificant as looking at him.

Hm. Intriguing. Not a ruling style I'd use, but power does go to some people's heads... Hm. Given 'die forever and don't come back', am I correct in guessing that your species-- remortals, have I got that right?-- is one with natural resurrection, or one with a dormant state societally considered 'dead'? [The good thing about having three faces is being able to observe many things at once. She summons an extra set of arms to handle taking notes on Dom's world; they are not actually connected to her anywhere, just sort of hovering beneath her actual shoulders.]

Remortals aren't exactly a species, it's more of an ability. A pretty rare one, but the Order I was in was pretty much only made up of those. Mortals didn't really last long.
And yeah, it's resurrection. Basically, when we die, we dephase, as in, disappearing in a puff of smoke, and after a hopefully short trip through Limbo, we poof back into the world. Specifically, a bit above the world. Good thing convergence points typically have water underneath them.

!! [Her ears prick up.] Disappear? Are you an energyform race, then, or do your physical forms just decompose quickly without a life-spark to hold them together? Do mortals also dephase when they die, without the subsequent reformation?

Where I'm from, everything including matter is made of a form of energy called Essence. I didn't exactly research it but I assume the body turns back into energy to allow for reappearing somewhere else. Note that some bits can stay if, according to my research, they're small enough and directly caused the death. Which allows Chimeras to eat people. Yay.
As for mortals, I'm... Not sure? But I think it depends on the species. Nezloyans, which are always mortal, turn into zombies upon death, and then they leave at least enough remains to bury. Unless they exploded or something, of course. I think humans, and subspecies like dwarves and elves, dephase even if they're mortal. I don't know about Onyx and Obsydes but either they're all remortal or mortal ones also dephase. A mortal Chimera is extremely unlikely. I don't remember what Saperes do but I think they dephase. I... Think that's it?

-pads in and lays down next to Onyx, head on paws. She looks tired- "How do they fit that much energy in those tiny frames?"

Matter is made of energy? That's an interesting way of putting it... then again, debates about whether sparks are matter, energy, both, or neither... hm. I don't suppose you know anyone who has studied Essence?
Also, I don't dephase but depending on your definition all of me could be said to be remortal, given the resurrective properties of the Well! [The face focused on Dom grins. She seems to have forgotten whether or not he actually knows her name, which would rather ruin the pun.] In any case, thank you for the information! I'll have to bother Vek sometime once we get our own universe straightened out again and get him to take me over, it sounds like live observations would be fascinating.

[Onyx laughs a little and extracts a hand to offer false noofing, and perhaps pets if Sawbones seems so inclined.] Sparks are always strongest fresh out of the Well. They'll settle down eventually, never fear.

Energyforms are statistically common, yes-- just about everything is, if you pull the scope out far enough-- but my own species, despite having a lengthy resurrective cycle, is entirely constrained to physical matter; our frames degrade as unliving metal once our sparks move on. The contrast is exciting!

-noofs hand- I hope so. Did ya know sparklings are experts at finding things ta try an´kill themselves with? An´good luck sparklingproofing th´place, they keep figurin´out ways around it.

[Rubbing Sawbones' face in return is the closest Onyx can come to noofing without transforming, and she's still (hopefully) getting notes on Mara and Dom. Face scritches for the kitty.]

People are creative and inventive to a fault, yes-- that doesn't stop when we grow up. Or have you not seen Amalgamous prodding people in here?
