Kitten, things work differently in different places. A lot of different universes and times meet here. Many different languages are being translated by this place, and not all of them have a system of writing. Being a scientisr means being open to others' experiences - life is different for everyone.

 

Writing, or letters, is a system of recording words so people in the future can know your words and ideas. Not every language has it, but in the ones that do, each symbol represents either a sound or an idea - sometimes both. Cybertronian is very complex in this way, so I'll show you an example in English.
-he writes "Life Support" in large letters in the air-
That's my name, Life Support. Each symbol makes a sound - that first one makes "l".

 

But why would people in the future wanna know my words and ideas?

You never know! You could have all sorts of interesting things to say.

English is tricky, because some letters make more than one sound, depending on how they're put together. When you have an I and then another letter and an e, it makes an "i" sound, like its name.
