So I keep thinking about this, and it completely changes so many things about their dynamic

Like because we were only getting Yuuri's pov we thought the scene where Victor asks if he wants a photo at the gpf was the only time they talked, but the banquet would have been after that! So to Victor when he saw Yuuri skating his routine it wasn't just some guy, it was that cute boy who asked him to drop his whole life while humping his leg I'm in tears

No wonder Victor pouted so hard when Yuuri rejected his advances at first! He probably expected to sweep in and have this perfect romance, I bet he built up all these expectations up in his head for what he'd do and say and how Yuuri would react, and then he was left going "but I thought you liked me?????????????????"

It also explains why everyone already thought they were banging oh my god

ALSO I love that Yuuri apparently challenged all the other skaters to dance offs and then swept the floor with them while blackout drunk. Amazing.

ALSO ADDITIONALLY they pushed their hotel beds together these boys will be my death

So I'm definitely going to re watch again with this new context for Victor's behavior toward Yuuri, I'm excited

Oh man I read a great short Phichit wingman fic a while ago and now I can't find it again
It was set at the cup of China and featured him slowly gliding by and waggling his eyebrows at Victor over Yuuri's head, and it made me laugh inappropriately at work

Even as I am shaking my head. Boys, I love you, but how did you just get engaged without ever updating the DTR talk you had 7 MONTHS AGO? Things have clearly changed since then! You skipped a few steps! Please talk about this using words!

So, I was discussing the pole dancing thing with a friend, and we concluded that (a) it's no surprise that Chris knows how to pole dance, and (b) Yuuri's proficiency definitely requires explanation.

Current headcanon: Phichit tricked Yuuri into attending a class with him once. He called it "very American dancing", and waved off Yuuri's concerns with "American housewives do it for exercise!" before they got there. Then let social pressure and the fact that they'd paid money do the rest to keep him there.

(It was, in fact, mostly housewives. They were the only guys there, and everyone thought they were the cutest things and they both got hit on by a lot of middle-aged women.)

I for one would appreciate fic recs! There's a lot of enthusiastic but not-very-good stuff out there, and I'm tired of wading through 40000 weird soulmark AUs and aggressively "meh" fluff and porn to find the good stuff.

(To be clear, I'm glad we have such an active fanbase, I'm glad people are moved to write for this show even if they're new writers or experienced-but-not-very-good writers! I just don't want to read it all.)

 

YES I have done pole and was nearly at the level of a couple of those moves before having to stop, and dear god you do not just hop on a pole and do that split, Chris absolutely goes to classes

 

It's important to remember that these are professional athletes with a focus on strength and flexibility to begin with. You saw that scene with yurio holding his leg straight up in the air behind his head. It's not such a stretch that young men in the peak of fitness with a penchant for performance would figure out pole dancing by experimentation.

Oh yeah for sure, but Chris's upside down split is a move that can go catastrophically wrong if the person doing it holds their hand the wrong way.

 

I have absolutely no doubt chris has had some (a lot) of practice and lessons, and my new headcanon is that he gave yuuri an impromptu stripping class right there at the banquet
